Principal's Update ~ January 2018

Winter Greetings!

I hope that everyone enjoyed special times with family and friends over the winter break. The children made a nice transition back to school and were excited to see their teachers and friends. Unfortunately, the recent winter storm gave us an unexpected long weekend but we are back on track with classroom routines and lots of learning!

This month all of the children were treated to a special assembly titled "Healthier Ever After" which focused on good nutrition and exercise. This assembly program was funded by a PTA teacher grant and was enjoyed by all. We are also looking forward to visiting authors, Peter Brown (grades 1 and 2) and Lester Laminack (Kindergarten) in the coming weeks. Many thanks to our PTA for supporting these special events!

Registration for our new incoming Kindergarten students begins at the end of the month. I look forward to welcoming this new class of students and their families at our Spring orientation in May.

As we learned from our assembly, fresh air and exercise is important for healthy bodies. We will take advantage of outdoor recess weather permitting so please be sure to dress your child appropriately.

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Kathleen Scotti

A Culture of Kindness

Have you heard about The Great Kindness Challenge? It is a proactive and positive kindness initiative to improve school climate and increase student engagement. During the week of January 22 - 26 OHES students will be devoted to performing acts of kindness towards others. Students will bring home a pledge that they will sign with families and create a tree of kindness at school that will be displayed in our "Kindness Hallway" that students pass by everyday. The GKC actively engages students, teachers, administrators, and families in creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity, and respect. Classroom doors will be decorated in a kindness theme and our annual food drive for the local food pantry will also take place. At OHES our goal is to show everyone that KINDNESS MATTERS! Check out a preview of some of our decorated doors below.
