Great First Week!
We had a great first week. I know there were some bumps along the way and maybe even some tech issues, but overall we got through it! Last week, teachers focused on making sure all our kids knew how to get on Classlink and Schoology. They saw beginning of the year videos and learned how to use Schoology. We know it will take time.
Monday through Friday mornings, Intervention/Enrichment for a student will begin at 9:00 a.m. Students will not be required to participate in each Intervention/Enrichment that is offered and this will vary on the needs of each individual student. However this is time for students to complete their work and/or seek help from their teachers. The first scheduled class will begin at 10:00 and the last scheduled class will end at 3:10 p.m. There is an afternoon Intervention/Enrichment time from 3:10 p.m. – 3:51 p.m. that is also not required. Again, this is time for students to complete their work and/or get help from their teachers. Teachers will offer Zoom Office Hours. See the schedule below. We highly encourage students to go visit their teachers for any clarification or questions they may have regarding any school work or just issues they may be having.
Students should be logging onto Classlink as this is where Schoology lives, along with other resources. On Wednesday, we rolled out an Attendance Course for their grade level. We would like all students to complete the assignment (called SEL Check-In) in this course daily. The assignment is a 2 question survey for them to complete. All students should access this Attendance course first when they log in to Schoology. There is a video below that explains the process.
Just a reminder that our teachers will continue to email you all at least every two weeks regarding upcoming content and any other important information. Grades will be entered by Monday at midnight weekly so that you may check every Tuesday morning for grade updates. Schoology will be helpful for students as they will see (as will you) all their assignments on a calendar and grades posted. These are such important executive functioning skills our kids need to learn. Our teacher will continue to provide our students with timely feedback so look for student trackers in all core classes. We want our students to take ownership of their grades and set goals for every assessment. It is an important life skill and we expect all our students to make progress every year.
We have a Virtual Coffee with the Principal coming up next week. We hope to "see" you there!
Please let us know how we can help you throughout the year. You are more than welcome to email me directly or call my secretary, Laura Torres, to schedule a meeting with me if you have any concerns or questions. It is my privilege and honor to serve as your child's Principal. Thank you for your support and we look forward to another great year!
