Facts and Opinions
In Reading, we have been learning the difference between facts and opinions. The students read a story called "Jellies". This story was all about jellyfish. After the story, the students made fact and opinion jellyfish. On the purple pieces of paper, the students wrote their opinions about jellyfish. On the pink pieces of paper, the students wrote facts they learned from the story.
Measuring
This week in Math, we have been learning about standard units of measurement. We explored feet, inches, and centimeters. The students learned how to measure things with a ruler. They also practiced measuring pictures in their math journals.
Changes!
2P has started the science unit on changes. The children have talked about solids, liquids, and gases. They have seen a liquid turn into a solid and a gas. Recently, the students mixed a liquid with a solid. The children let their mixtures sit for a week. When we returned to the science lab, the students observed their mixtures and noted any changes that took place. The students then separated the mixtures with a funnel and filter. The class discovered that when you mix salt (a solid) with water (a liquid), the salt dissolves.
Friendship and Calming Strategies
On Friday, The class read the story "The Sandwich Swap". The children really enjoyed this story about the importance of friendship. In the story, the main characters have some trouble controlling their emotions. This leads to an argument between the two friends. At the end of the story, the friends forgive one another. After the story, the children made a calm down sandwich. On each part of the sandwich, the children wrote a strategy that they will use when they need to calm down.
