National Nurses Day
National Nurses Day is observed annually on May 6th. On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society and our school system. This day is also the first day of National Nurses Week and is sometimes known as National RN Recognition Day.
National Nurses Week begins May 6th and ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910). Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English social reformer, statistician, and founder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Nightingale was dubbed “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night.
Be sure to take a moment to thank all our TVUSD School Nurses for their outstanding work during the Pandemic! We appreciate them, their commitment, and their work ethic in ensuring our students are healthy so that they can learn!

Annual registration is REQUIRED for all TVUSD returning students. For the 21/22 school year, TVUSD students have two (2) learning OPTIONS for enrollment:
OPTION 1
Grades PreK-12:
Enrollment in traditional on-campus learning at your current home school site.
OPTION 2
Elementary and Middle School Grades TK-8:
Enroll in the TK-8 grades Home INstead INnovation Academy (HIIA). This is our virtual or homeschool learning program with optional access to an on-site learning center. Students will be disenrolled from their home elementary and middle school and enrolled at the Home INstead INnovation Academy for the 21/22 school year. Students will not be eligible for concurrent enrollment at their home school site.
High School Grades 9-12:
Enroll in the 9-12 grades Susan H. Nelson Independent Study School (SNIHS). This is our online, hybrid, or concurrent learning program for grades 9-12. Students will be disenrolled from their comprehensive high school and enrolled at SNIHS for the 21/22 school year. SNIHS students will be eligible for concurrent enrollment (1 or 2 courses) and athletics at their home high schools.
To ensure all programs are staffed appropriately for the 2021/22 school year, families who want to enroll their students in OPTION 2 will need to complete the annual registration for PRIORITY ENROLLMENT by the following dates. All enrollment is based on capacity.
TK-8 Home INstead INnovation Academy - May 7, 2021.
9-12 Susan H. Nelson Independent School - April 30, 2021.
After these dates, enrollment CANNOT be guaranteed in the TK-12 grades independent study programs and will be dependent upon space availability.
Once you complete your annual registration for the Home INstead Academy or the 9-12 Susan H. Nelson Independent Study Program, an enrollment technician will follow up with you to discuss your child’s specific program options.
