A Message from Principal Sarlos

Hi Coyote Families,

I am so grateful for all your communication and support. I am so happy that the air is clear at the moment and our state is the nurturing rain we so badly needed. My heart goes out to all of you who may have families who were evacuated over the last couple weeks.

I know from your feedback that some of you are slowly finding a rhythm with our new distance learning model and others are still experiencing challenges with either tech or schedules. Know that everyone in our system is doing their very best to troubleshoot and work through these challenges.

The very best part of all of our days right now is seeing your children doing their best to engage with teachers and one another every day.

Principal Sarlos

Back to School Night Update

Back to school night is an event for Principals and teachers to welcome you back to school, introduce ourselves, and present key information for the year. We want to keep the intention of it, but change the delivery method to be more fitting with the times. Due to recent issues with hosting large events on Zoom, we will instead package this year's Back to School Night in a video for you to watch in the comfort of your own home and at a time you find most convenient. On Tuesday, October 6, you will receive an email from your student's teacher with a video from me on behalf of the entire school and a video from your student's teacher. As always, teachers are available for private follow up.

Message from Tech Support: Turn off Devices

Tech support will be running some updates, please completely power off devices at night and keep plugged in to fully charge. Doing this periodically, if not daily, might help alleviate some of the tech challenges.

As a reminder, a majority of tech concerns can be resolved by submitting a Tech Support ticket -- the link is on all school and district homepages for easy access to help with passwords, log-ins, hardware fixes, etc.

Register for the School Bus

In preparation for students being able to attend school in person, we need to be ready to provide bus transportation for those who need it. We are encouraging families to walk, bike or carpool, when possible. If you think your LOSD student will need to take the bus to or from school at any time during the 2020-2021 school year, please register them now.

Click here to register for bus transportation for 2020-21 school year.

Registration will remain open until Monday, Oct. 5, before begin determining exact bus routes. The sooner people register, the fewer route changes need to be made once bus service begins. Thank you in advance for your prompt response in this essential preparation for onsite school.

School Advisory Committee (SAC) Openings

Oak Creek has positions open for the School Advisory Committee (SAC). Each school has a School Advisory Committee that provides an important communication link between the school board, the school, and the community. SAC members work to facilitate citizen involvement in the decision-making process of the school. SACs assist school principals in establishing priorities and goals, suggesting ways to address issues, and assisting with the collection of information and citizen opinion.

Committee members are appointed to serve two-year terms, 2020-2022. If you are interested, please complete and submit the SAC application Carrie Beach (beachc@loswego.k12.or.us) by Friday, Oct. 2. Applications will be reviewed, and recommendations sent to the School Board for appointments.

PTO Corner: Drive by for Pie!

We are excited to announce our first fundraiser of the year... Drive by for Pie! November 10th is our pie day! It is just in time for the holidays. Some of the pies are ready to bake like the handmade or artisan pies. Don’t forget to order a Pumpkin Chiffon Pie that you just thaw and eat. Yes, it's that time of year already!

How do you get your pies? (It is as easy as pie!)

First, order your pies at the Oak Creek Elementary PTO website by Friday, October 23rd.

Second, drive through the Oak Creek Elementary parking lot on Saturday, November 10th at 3:30pm. Your order will be ready and waiting to be placed in your trunks. I don’t know about you, but I am thinking Thanksgiving dinner will be much easier with a delicious premade pie!

PTO fundraisers support teachers and classrooms, science nights, class parties, field trips, Art Lit, and Staff Appreciation Week, scholarships, and more! Scholarship donations go to those OCE families in need (meals, field trips, school supplies, glasses, etc.).

Please note that in addition to ordering pies at oakcreekpto.square.site, you may also make donations to the OCE PTO.

Thank you for your support!
