Cross Country Makes A Difference in Our Community
On Tuesday, March 12, the Pottsgrove Cross Country teams presented the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities Meals and Shelter Programs with a check for $3,500.00. The proceeds were raised from the annual Thanksgiving morning Toss Your Turkey 5K road race.
The Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities provides food security, household assistance, supportive service referrals, housing stability, and an opportunity for individuals living in poverty to participate in education and supportive programs for people living in the greater Pottstown area. Accepting the check was Barbara Cooper, director of the program at Trinity Church in Pottstown. The teams' head coach is Larry Rechtin.
The team also donated a check for $1,500.00 to Operation Backpack, which helps to provide food to local disadvantage youth.
Thank you to our cross country team on giving back to our community who gives to us on a daily basis.
Operation Backpack is a non profit organization providing food to students in our local community who would go without over the weekend. Backpacks are filled Wednesday nights and and are picked up buy qualifying students on Friday for the weekend. The backpacks contain enough food for dinner Friday night, all meals Saturday and Sunday, along with snacks. The students then return the backpacks on Monday.

Suicide Prevention Strategy Training Coming to PGHS
Dear Parents/Guardians of 9th Grade Students,
We are excited to share with you that in the coming weeks we will be partnering with Montgomery County Access Services and the Montgomery County Mobile Crisis Unit to bring our students two outstanding trainings (learning opportunities). During the first two weeks of April all 9th grade students will be included in training focused on the QPR Suicide Prevention strategy and the Hope 4 Tomorrow program.
As our Superintendent has shared, the safety and well being of our students and staff is our top priority. It’s our goal to equip students with the tools to ensure a healthy mindset throughout life. You will find some added details about the QPR Suicide Prevention strategy and the Hope 4 Tomorrow program below.
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) - QPR are three steps anyone can use to help save a person from completing suicide. We are pleased to be partnering with the Montgomery County Mobile Crisis Unit to host this powerful training to all 9th grade students on April 2nd.
Hope 4 Tomorrow - Hope 4 Tomorrow is a program designed to educate students about mental health and suicide. Students will learn skills that can bolster their wellness and be empowered to ask for help for themselves or someone else. This highly interactive presentation uses activities such as games, volunteering opportunities, and polling. All 9th grade students will learn about Hope 4 Tomorrow during a Social Studies class on either April 8th or 9th.
If you would like for your son/daughter to not participate in one or both of these opportunities, please email Mrs. Clemmer, the Principal Administrative Assistant, at jclemmer@pgsd.org. Any Opt Out requests must be submitted prior to March 29, 2019.
Sincerely,
Bill Ziegler, Ed.D.
Principal
