News and Notes
2021 BHS Open House
Brockport High School students and families,
On Thursday, September 23, we will hold our annual Open House. I am pleased to say that this year’s event will be fully in-person.
Parents will follow their student’s A and B day schedules. Each “class” will be 10 minutes in length with a scheduled four-minute passing time. The advisement period (ADV/Flex) will provide parents the opportunity to visit a music class, science lab, AIS class, learning recovery, or physical education class that meet during the same period as another class. Counselors will be in the library throughout the night for parents who would like to learn more about the timeline for college applications and our grade level counseling curriculum. Our administrative team will also be available throughout the building to answer questions and to provide support.
Please see the document linked here for additional details.
This night is to allow families the opportunity to meet with their student’s teachers, to obtain information about our academic programs, and to learn about the expectations for the classes their student is taking.
As is our protocol during the school day, everyone present will be required to wear a mask when indoors. As you enter the building, we will have staff on hand to provide a mask should you need one.
If you have (a) tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days, (b) have knowingly been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days, or (c) have in the past 24 hours experienced any of the symptom below, please do not attend the Open House, but contact us so we can make alternate arrangements for you to meet with your student’s teachers at a later date.
- Temperature greater than 100 ° F
- New cough or shortness of breath
- Sore throat (not sue to allergies)
- Muscle or body aches
- Loss of taste or smell
- Nasal congestion
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Headache
Thank you, all, and please do not hesitate to contact us at (585) 637-1870 with questions.
One School One Book
We are excited to bring back the One School/One Book project to BHS this year! Our chosen text is Dragon Hoops! We are excited to be able to share this book with our entire school community! Dragon Hoops is a graphic novel by the award winning author, Gene Luen Yang. Full of insight about self-identity, racial and ethnic diversity, teamwork, and leadership, Dragon Hoops follows the real-life Bishop O'Dowd Dragons, an Oakland high school basketball team, in its quest to win the California state championship. We will have opportunities for you to discuss and engage with the book throughout second semester. Author Gene Yang will visit BHS in February for a virtual visit to discuss the book and answer your questions.
Students, you have a choice! Would you prefer to read this book in print version (hard copy) or as an ebook through Sora? Let us know by completing the brief survey linked to the blue button below. We will do our best to get you the version you prefer.
Transportation
While the driver shortage continues, we ask that any BHS students staying after school do what they can to arrange for their own transportation home. For those that need a ride on the late bus, we will have the following options:
- Students that live SOUTH of Ridge Road will board bus 73 at the HS, go to Barclay/Ginther, and then transfer to the elementary bus runs whose route goes by their home.
- Students that live on Ridge and NORTH will take bus 22.
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Transportation Department at (585) 637-1880.
