The Great Kindness Challenge
This coming week is Kindness Week at Wildwood, and our Student Council kicked off the week by making an announcement at Friday's Pep Rally that encouraged students to find daily ways to create a kinder world.
As we practice kindness in its many forms at school, we also encourage you to make it an emphasis in your homes this coming week. Below, we have included a copy of "The Great Kindness Challenge" to get you started.
"Being kind means responding to the needs of others - and people can be kind, no matter how old or young we are." ~Fred Rogers
Warmly,
Mr. Lynch

Optional Progress Reports Go Home Friday - Feb. 2
We have reached the Trimester 2 midpoint, and teachers have assessed students to determine their progress towards Trimester 2 benchmark standards. On Friday, February 2, students who are NOT meeting standards in 1 or more of the reporting fields will bring home a progress report. A few teachers may choose to send progress reports home with every student in their class. We encourage you to review the report, discuss with your student, and connect with your child's teacher as needed to make a plan for improvement.

Love is in the air! ❤️
If you bought something special for the ones you love, save those receipts! 3X the points at select locations until February 29th. See the attached flyer for details. Even if you didn't shop at those stores, you can still submit receipts for regular points. We are currently in 12th place so we need all the receipts we can get! Only a few more months left. Drop off receipts at the front office or send a quick screenshot to Jen Charoenrath at (909) 374-1598.
More Ways Your Purchases Help Wildwood
Did you know that by shopping at Ralph's, you can earn money for the school?
Link your Ralph's Club Card and earn Community Rewards that will contribute directly towards Wildwood. You only need to set it up and then every purchase contributes -- you can even share the link with friends and family! Currently, only 29 of our families have registered - let's get that number up!
Create or log in to your Ralphs account, click on your name, then "My Account", and then "Community Rewards" on the left side of the page. Then simply designate Wildwood PTA as your organization and you're done!

100th Day of School is Wednesday, February 7, 2024
The 100th Day of School is a BIG deal. Students get to celebrate all they have learned over the past 100 days, and it provides an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and gear up for the remainder of the school year. While our youngest learners will have special "100th Day" activities planned to commemorate the milestone, ALL students are invited to dress up as a 100 year-old or wear 100 items to school as a fun way to make the day special and build fond memories of these elementary years.
TK & K Dance Teacher Job Vacancy
We would like to thank Nathalie Wutkee for her service as our TK and Kinder dance instructor this past Fall. Over winter break, Nathalie accepted another job offer that will propel her forward in her career as a movement specialist, so we are currently seeking candidates to fill the TK and Kinder dance instructor position at Wildwood. The position is only 2 hours per week, scheduling is flexible, and a teaching credential is not required. If you know someone who might be interested in the position, please encourage them to contact Mr. Lynch at klynch@conejousd.org.

STEAM Update
Hello Wildwood Families!
This week in STEAM our 4th and 5th grades used our STEAM Sets to engineer various circuits. The kids loved it so much we will continue with this next class too!
Our 3rd graders are learning about wheels and axels in their Science unit and spent this week’s STEAM class brainstorming and starting to craft their own cart using limited supplies. They learned that working in teams can be hard and a great way to get lots of ideas. They should finish up their carts next class and then test them during the following class! Their goal is to create a cart that travels the farthest down a ramp.
STEAM Wishlist:
- sandwich and quart size ziplock bags
- big jugs of white Elmers’s glue
- tinfoil
- paper plates
- cotton balls
- different types of “insulation” scraps such as flannel, fleece, foam, and wool
- mini cups
- scotch tape
- Playdough
- pennies
- biodegradable packing “popcorn”

CVUSD Invention Convention
All 3rd-5th grade students are invited to participate in CVUSD’s sixth Invention Convention sponsored by Student Support Services. Invention Convention is a showcase where students display inventions that they have created. Students may work alone or in a group of 2-4 students to identify a problem to solve, come up with a solution that can be invented, create the invention and then share it at a convention. This is a great opportunity for students who are creative, curious, who enjoy tinkering and innovating, and who are adept at solving problems!
If interested, plan on attending the Parent/Student Informational Meeting at University Center (2801 Atlas Ave.) on January 31 from 6-7pm.
