Blaze Bulletin
Edition 21 - January 23rd
Greetings...
Dear Teachers,
This week, the administration will be visiting with tested PLCs. We will be meeting in computer labs, so please be looking for your meeting time/place. We will be doing some quick data to help with PLC work on the February 2nd PLC Day. Non-tested PLCs will also be having special sessions on February 2nd, and some will require that you bring some work. Again, please be looking for those directions (don't worry - it's something you already have!).
We are looking to make a final push to ACT and EOC in the most efficient/effective ways possible. All hands on deck!

Library Reno....
The library renovation started with the news that the library would be getting new carpet. Then Zach Adams took on a library redesign as his BCA Capstone project. Using parts of his dream plan that were doable with what furniture the library already had and under $500 in paint and accessories (excluding the cost of the carpet), the library has a whole new look! If you haven't seen it yet, please go by and check it out.
Special thanks for this project go to Mr. Pedigo, the custodial staff, and Zach Adams.

VALIC SITE VISIT....
YOU'VE BEEN "MUGGED"
This school year there’s something new to help you unplug,
It’s a sweet surprise that’s a hug in a mug!
A sweet friend left it for you here,
To bring you some Blackman school cheer!
You’ve been “mugged,” and it’s your turn to share,
With your friends if you care.
Pick a mug and fill it with items tasty and fun.
Why not begin the year with a hug
By spreading a little love with a mug?
What to do:
1. Enjoy your mug and treats.
2. Place this I’ve been “mugged” sign on your door.
3. Get a mug and fill it up with goodies.
4. Secretly deliver to a friend’s room or mailbox who hasn’t been “mugged,” yet. Last day Friday 2/17/17
5. If you don’t want to participate, copy the sign, put it on your door, and pass the mug on to another person, thanks!
THE 30 DAY HAPPY TEACHER CHALLENGE....
DAY 21 - Write a note to a student who has done something kind or thoughtful to show them that their good deed is noticed.
DAY 22 - Organize the files on your computer's desktop today.
DAY 23 - Share a successful lesson you had with a colleague who teaches the same subject or grade level as you. Encourage them to try it out!
DAY 24 - Think of a student who doesn't always get recognition. Display that student's work in your classroom.
DAY 25 - Drinking water helps energize muscles, keeps your kidneys healthy, and keeps you looking great. Have a water bottle nearby in your classroom and attempt to drink 2L of water a day.
New Year's School Resolutions/Reflections
"I will take time for me to improve my physical and mental well-being."
"I will enjoy the challenges verses becoming frustrated."
"I will learn from my colleagues."
"I will help students complete missing work. I will help students that I have to complete credit recovery."
"I will see the difference I am making with these kids and this school."
"I will work harder to establish more relationships."
"I will evaluate student data more often to target deficiencies and strengths."
"I will stay aware of my co-workers' needs and encourage them when they need it and when they don't."
"I will be a better leader among peers."
"I will be positive and continue to grow professionally."
HOSTING AFTER SCHOOL EVENTS.....
If you are planning to have any large after school events between now and the end of school, please check with Mr. Armstrong to discuss clean-up arrangements for the event.
HEALTHFUL HINTS....
Happy 2017!
Many of us set goals and/or resolutions for the New Year that include eating healthy and weight loss. Unfortunately, many of those goals are not met, and the weight does not come off. One major reason is that we do not listen to our bodies hunger signals.
Below is an article that explains how listening to our body's hunger signals can reduce over-eating.

Donate Your Old Smartphone to BHS!
Do you have an old smartphone lying around? Did you get a new one for Christmas? Donate your old smartphone to be used in our upcoming Google Expeditions lab! The lab will be available to all classes at BHS. To make the lab work as well as possible, our goal is to receive fifty donated smartphones. You will receive a letter of donation to file with your taxes when you drop off your working smartphone. Here is what we need:
- Smartphone (iOS/Android) four years old or newer
- In working order
- Wifi capable - we won't need to connect to cell service
- Reset to factory defaults before donating
- Charger included
- No cracked screens
- An iPod touch will work, too
- Drop off at BHS front desk
Want to know more about Google Expeditions? Learn more here. Or, ask one of the teachers who participated in the Google Expeditions site visit last year: Price, Hardison, Holder, Pedigo, Jenkins, and Cook. Holly Hunter will be happy to answer questions about the donations or about Google Expeditions. This will be a great addition to our school!
