2nd Grade News - Friday, September 30th
Happy Fall!
I hope everyone enjoys the beautiful weather that has come our way these past few days. There will be some exciting things happening in Fall in 2nd grade! Please read our newsletter this week for some important news and reminders.
Important Information:
1. Dress Down on MONDAY:
This week Mrs. Campbell visited our classroom to check if our students are following the FSAPS uniform policy. We received a good report... good job 2nd graders! She has awarded us a dress down day on Monday, October 3rd. Students can wear whatever they choose on Monday.
2. Pumpkin Book Reports:
Students are bringing home a project today in their take home folders. This project is fun for the whole family :)
Students will choose a chapter book to read for the month of October. They will complete a book reflection page and a book review about this book. At the end of the month, students will decorate a pumpkin to match a character in their book! These will be on display the last week in October/First week of November! Please read the project description and rubric very closely to make sure your student completes each part of this project. Pumpkins and their book reports will be due on Monday, October 31st. They will remain on display until Friday, November 4th.
this project will count as one of our monthly reading reflections for 2nd grade students. This means I should see some wonderful paragraphs about the book they choose!
3. Homework is coming home today!
We are sending home a month long project today, so this week's homework packet is a bit shorter than usual. This means your 2nd grader should choose their book for their project and begin reading as part of their homework this week! Remember... if you need to print an extra copy, please look in your child's MATH SECTION on FSAconnect.
4. Hillcrest Field Trip Forms:
Make sure you return these forms signed and attach your child's payment by Wednesday, October 19th! More information about this field trip is below. It will be a very fun day! :)
4. AR LOGS/ REFLECTIONS for October:
We will be starting a new month of reflections on Monday! I look forward to grading September's reflections to see how our 2nd graders are doing. This month, your child must score an 80% or above on their AR quiz in order to write a reflection for their reading log. Please continue to encourage your students to read at home! This month your child should read...
1) a chapter book - (their pumpkin project book)
2) a nonfiction book
3) a book of choice
5. Graded Papers
Graded papers are going to be coming home in your child's take home folder today! Please look through them together! :)

Hillcrest Orchards Information
1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students will be heading on a field trip to Hillcrest Orchards on Wednesday, October 26th. All the kids will participate in a wagon ride through the orchards, around the pond, and through the woods, visit an apple and honey bee museum, learn about animals and visit a petting zoo, hold a baby chick, watch and maybe participate in milking a cow, cheer on some pigs in a pig race, and enjoy some fresh apples and apple cider!
Please make sure you send your child with their signed form and $13.00!
We will be able to wear comfortable bottoms and tennis shoes for this field trip, but all students should wear their RED uniform polo. All students must also pack a sack lunch for this trip!
Chaperones: We will allow four chaperones per class. Our class only has one chaperone for this trip so far! Each chaperone will also need to pay $13, however, the payment must be made separately from your child. Please click on this link to sign-up if you would like to be a chaperone and for more details. First come, first serve!

Home Visit Program
Home visits are a special program offered by FSAPS to help build the parent, student, and teacher relationship. This is an opportunity for your child's teachers to visit and get a closer look at their life at home. This helps a teacher to know more about each of his/her students, and build a strong relationship between school and family. These are optional, but if you would be interested in planning a home visit for your child, please see the information below.
How Can You Schedule a Home Visit?
This process is very simple. Please send an e-mail to our home visit coordinator, Mrs. Unal, at junal@fultonscienceacademy.org. In that email, please provide three available dates for your child's home visit. We will get back to you to confirm a date. At least two teachers will be together for home visits; specific names/subjects will be dependent upon teacher availability.
For any questions you have about this program, please send an e-mail to junal@fultonscienceacademy.org.
Please note: the best times to schedule a home visit are weekdays after 5:00pm, and during the weekends, except Sunday mornings.
