Have you ever had that amazing tingling feeling?
Have you ever had that amazing tingling feeling? You caught it in your mind and then it drifts away? Would you like it back right now? What if you could just flick a switch and you are back there? Well you can.
When I took my children to Costa Rica I wandered alone up the beach and stood firm on the hot, white sand, with the warm breeze caressing my skin. The birds and the sea are gently rocking and the blood red orange sky magnificently melting on the grey line of the horizon. This is it, I told myself. This is what life’s about and the gratitude experienced flooded my heart. This is the most beautiful scene I have ever had the honour of witnessing and I took a deep breath in and consciously stored the image in my mind. My emotions ran so high, tears fell down my cheeks with happiness.
Next, I was back in the city, back in a training room and asked to look for an image of something that made me feel good. The movie I’d imprinted on in my memory came right back to me with the beauty of the beach and the setting sun once again. I could feel the sensations all over again . I’d anchored it. This is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). We can all do, and here’s how to perfect it....,
What is an anchor?
In NLP, an anchor behaves like a trigger - It’s like a mainline light switch that connects your experiences via your neural pathways and through these anchors you form memories and responses. Consciously creating positive anchors can be really helpful for state management, building resilience and help with eliminating painful memories. How you perceived the world, as a child is not always helpful as an adult. The good news is you can change these when you are awake. Form new memories.
An easy example of one of our visual representational systems– We know when to stop at a traffic light because the colour of the lights are associated in our minds with feelings and meaning. We know that the symbols of the Highway Code are universal. We know a smile means we are happy and that the clouds mean rain. With each of these visual representations and paradigms, understanding becomes our unspoken learnt associations,. Less helpful will be the shared paradigm of Covid 19 and the fear it instilled. Now we need new beliefs to retrain our immune systems to wellness. Create an anchor to fire wellness and light to each any every cell. Instruct your immune system to eliminate toxins and be well.When you notice fear when you are reintegrating, trigger your anchor to flood your cells to love because fear shuts done your kidneys and your immune system. Not a good idea.
In teaching we talk about learning styles and in NLP we have similar representational systems as seeing, doing, and hearing ( learning styles to a teacher). There is also smelling and tasting. Any or a combination of these can embed anchors for us.

Legal Highs – How to get them.
It is possible to nurture these skills and manage your state through activating your anchors. Knowing that you have the power to change your state in an instance is extremely empowering and exciting isn’t it?
When you feel shit, if, in an instant you can replace the feeling with peace and harmony, imagine the benefits to your health?
Imagine what other sensations you could craft?
Practise the following steps;
Recall a vivid and wonderful visual memory.
Imagine all the other elements that were at play, including what it felt like, smelt like and the sounds. Who could you hear? What were your emotions.
Find where the emotions are on the inside and amplify that feeling
Put a physical anchor to the representation when it’s at reaching its peak.
Now break the state and talk about something else.
Then trigger the same time and see if you get the sensation and anchor reignited.
