Dear Parents:
The 2019-2020 school year has begun, and we are elated that AMCHS is preparing for its 100th year anniversary, September 2020. Though we are about a year from our official centennial date, you will be given opportunities to help celebrate this milestone with us. Please access the A&M Consolidated Centennial Committee’s Facebook page to stay abreast of the latest events.
Administrators, teachers, and support staff have worked continuously to prepare for the school year. Many have adjusted curriculum, analyzed testing data, spruced up their classrooms, and developed classroom behavior expectations to develop a positive learning environment. We know that a welcoming classroom atmosphere prevents behavior issues and positively impacts student learning. We are committed to ensuring your child is engaged in a stellar environment that is conducive to learning for all students. As a result, we are anticipating another Tigerrific year at AMCHS.
Our theme this year is, “We’re Better Together.” It takes administrators, counselors, teachers, office staff, instructional assistants, custodians, nurses, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, students, parents and the community to make AMCHS a top-notch high school. It’s no accident that you selected AMCHS. Your steps have been ordered to AMCHS so that you can partner with us to be the role models our students need! As a school family, our foundation is solid and built upon maintaining a disciplined environment, fostering positive relationships, implementing research-based practices, and being risk takers. Furthermore, we will be compassionate, loving, caring, and hardworking educators who are dedicated to “Educating the Hearts and Minds of Students for Life.”
At AMCHS, we will continue to strive toward excellence in everything we undertake and be a positive influence in our community. More importantly, we will encourage our students to become caring, productive citizens who develop academic and social skills to be a ray of sunshine in our community. Also, we will foster a growth mindset, maintain a disciplined environment, and hold students accountable for their actions.
As a school family, we have been extraordinary and have received various athletic and academic awards, earned championships, and been recognized as one of America’s top High Schools by U.S. News & Report 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. As we begin a new year, we will continue to achieve at the highest level and be committed to our mission of “Educating the Hearts and Minds of Students for Life.”
Also, we will continue several initiatives that began two years ago to strengthen character education. During Success Time, weekly lessons are shared with our students to help communicate our campus rules and procedures, expectations, announcements, campus initiatives, brain-based learning, positive behavior interventions and supports, and instructional strategies to impact learning. Furthermore, students are recognized for exhibiting respectful qualities and promoting an environment that will empower students to make good choices.
We welcome your continued involvement at AMCHS. We know that parents are our students’ first teachers, and research shows direct parental involvement positively impacts student success. Stay involved with your students. We’re Better Together and will put our best foot forward to make a difference daily!

From the Counselors' Office
Fall is a busy time for students as they adjust back to the rigorous academic schedule at AMCHS. The Counseling office is striving to assist students in numerous ways.
One of the goals for the AMCHS counselors this year is to be more accessible to students. Students can sign up electronically from the AMCHS Counseling website to see their counselor. Counselors will check the sign-in throughout the day and will try to see their students in a more expedient manner.
On Wednesday, September 11, the counselors will meet with all seniors about future choices, completing college applications, how to obtain letters of recommendation, the process for using college days, and upcoming SAT/ACT dates. We will post the presentation to the AMCHS Counseling website. Also, on Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17, all freshman will visit the counseling office during their English classes to meet their counselor and learn how to sign up to see their counselor.
Freshmen, sophomores and juniors are gearing up to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th. The fee is paid by the school and testing will occur in the morning. For juniors, this is the test for National Merit Semi-Finalist Qualifiers. For sophomores, this is an opportunity to practice for the junior year test. On this same day, freshmen who wish to take the PSAT 8/9 will have the opportunity to do so but will be required to sign up to take it. Seating for the SAT 8/9 will be limited to 150. To coincide with the SAT, students who take the October PSAT will be able to access free, personalized SAT prep from Khan Academy. Please see the AMCHS counseling website for more information.
In January, all students will receive a copy of their transcript that will show grades, credits earned, GPA, and class rank (only for grades 10-12). Students may request an unofficial copy of their transcript anytime in the counseling office.
Please visit or call the Counseling and Guidance office (764-5510) or check the counseling website or AMCHS facebook page for more information.
