Dear Parents,
The online version of this newsletter may be found at https://www.smore.com/x4f2x.
We had another great week last week. Hopefully your children enjoyed seeing some of our staff members dressed up in their 100th Day of School themed costumes on Thursday.
Our fourth and fifth graders were very patient and took their time with benchmark testing on Thursday and Friday. These tests were conducted under STAAR test-like conditions. This meant that students had to be silent until everyone in their room had completed their tests and their teacher had returned their testing materials to Mrs. Jackson. It also meant that students walked down to the cafeteria in silence, got their food, and then ate lunch in silence in their testing rooms before finishing their tests within the allotted time. The lunch break did not count toward the four hours they were given to complete the test.
This morning our fifth graders are traveling to Texas A&M’s campus to see The Lightning Thief. Students will return to Mitchell for lunch and eat in our cafeteria. Their lunchtime may be slightly later than normal though. We also have the PTO’s Taco Casa Profit Share all day today. Please support the PTO by stopping at Taco Casa for lunch and/or dinner. All of the PTO’s fundraising supports our students, staff members, and programs.
Valentine’s Day parties will be held this Friday according to the schedule provided by your child’s teacher(s). This Friday also brings the final day of the school supply drive being conducted as a service project by a group of Bryan High School International Baccalaureate students. Mitchell is competing against Johnson Elementary and the school that brings in more supplies than the other will earn a pajama day.
Don’t forget that school will be closed on Monday, February 15 for Presidents Day.
We have an early deadline on boxtops this month. Please turn them in by February 19.
The Watch D.O.G.S. program is holding Donuts with Dad on Saturday, February 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A flyer will be coming home. This will be a drop in event so stop by for a few minutes on your way to your Saturday activities.
Please remember to bring your blue tags with you when ]picking up your children from the car loop, even if you are walking up. You will need to sign your child out from the front desk if you do not have your tag with you.
We sent flyers home last week regarding 2016-2017 student transfers. The window for completing the transfer application opened on February 1, 2016 and closes on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 5:00 PM. The online transfer application is available at http://goo.gl/forms/3JD7iBq7tD and it will not be available after the March 11 5:00 PM deadline. Please see the flyer for additional information.
We are continuing to see large numbers of student and staff illnesses. Please remind your children to try and prevent the spread of germs and viruses by doing such things as coughing and sneezing into their sleeves or a tissue, frequently washing their hands with soap and water, keeping their hands away from their faces unless they are eating, and keeping their hands to themselves. These simple precautions go a long way to helping keep everyone a little healthier. Also, please be considerate of others and do not send your child to school if they have a fever.
Our lost and found bin behind the front counter is full. Please remind your child to check the bin if they are missing a coat, jacket, or lunch box. You may stop by the office between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to check the bin yourself as well.
We have a Giving Tree along one of the walls in the Kinder Corner area of the office. Please stop by, pull a leaf, and help a teacher fill a need in their classroom. The teachers and students will be extremely appreciative of your efforts.
Remember to contact either Mr. Josh DeLeon at (979) 739-6209 or by email at spokes276@yahoo.com, or me at (979) 209-1405 or by email at john.rokenbrod@bryanisd.org if you are interested in serving as a Watch DOG. Don’t forget about the Bryan ISD volunteer form that must be completed in order to volunteer at school and/or chaperone a field trip. The form can be found at http://tinyurl.com/prklgum and it can be completed on a computer, smartphone, or tablet.
Thank you for your continued support of your child's education.
Sincerely,
John Rokenbrod
