Redistricting Overview

In preparation for the opening of Hopewell Elementary and Walden Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year, and in order to balance our very different high school enrollments, we will be redistricting all of our attendance boundaries, from elementary through high school. Redistricting will help us continue to be one of the best districts around by protecting our low class sizes and making sure we can balance our resources.

Redistricting committee meetings are open to the public, if you want to observe them. We will also host public input meetings and provide an online feedback tool to get your thoughts on the committee's ideas before the Board sets the new attendance areas. Watch for more information about those opportunities later in the fall. The Board plans to make its decision in December.

2019-2020 School Start Times

As the Park Hill School District has grown, it has become more and more difficult for our school bus service to keep and hire enough drivers. This has led to problems in the level of service they are able to provide to Park Hill and our families.

To help solve this problem, we will follow in the steps of the other large school districts in our region and across the state by adjusting our start times. This might mean that some of our schools start earlier and some schools start later.

This will allow us to run another route each morning and afternoon. As a result, we will need fewer bus drivers, allowing our bus service to provide better service to our families while safely transporting our students. This will also significantly reduce the amount of taxpayer dollars required to run the buses.

After the Board votes on redistricting in December, the district will use the information about numbers of students from each area going to each school to determine how to add the extra routes. We will also ask for parent feedback on different options for the new start-time schedules. Using the student data and the parent feedback, we will determine the new start times and announce them in the spring.

New schedules will take effect in the 2019-2020 school year.

Sharing Smiles will be new for the 2018-19 school year!

We invite you to share with us a photo of your child(ren) highlighting their community service, academic recognition, arts awards, athletic accomplishment, or another exciting recognition that makes them smile. We will share it with our community on our Sharing Smiles bulletin board as you enter UC. As your family has special events over the summer, keep in mind anything that might be good for the Sharing Smiles board. Please send the digital photo of your child(ren) with a short explanation of the special event to Susan Sadler at sadlers@parkhill.k12.mo.us

Each month we will share new ‘smiles’ for all to see!

Student Safety and Signing Out

Ensuring the safety of our students is our most important goal. All outside doors including the main entrance are locked during school hours.

NEW THIS YEAR: ALL visitors will need to be "buzzed" into the office by pressing the intercom button near the main entrance.

All visitors and volunteers must sign in at the office to receive a visitor’s sticker. All adults must wear identification at all times in the building or on the playground.

Safety procedures are in place to ensure the well-being of every child, staff member and guests at Union Chapel. Thank you for honoring our safety procedures.

If you need to pick up your child for early dismissal, please come to the office, and Mrs. Sadler, Ms. Hutchison or Mrs. Rezac will call the classroom. Of course, where possible, please schedule appointments before or after school to prevent interrupting your child’s learning.

Boost Bus Safety

When students ride the bus, they must follow specific rules to avoid dangerous situations.

Please review general bus safety principles with this month's Report to Parents, “Boost Bus Safety.

Park Hill Star

The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy. Recently, PHSD Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd visited Union Chapel to congratulate three staff members who were nominated by parents and students. Pictures of these visits are below.

Click here to see who at Union Chapel has been recognized through the Park Hill Star Program so far: UC Recognitions.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.

That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.

Nominations are not being accepted at this time, but opportunities will re-open at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. Thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate a Park Hill Star this year!
