Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Miss Leestma's Class 2015-2016
Announcements
We have library every Tuesday. Please send your child's library books back by Tuesday of each week. If a student does not have a library book to return, they will not be able to check a new one out.
Art Shirt
Mrs. Eovaldi has asked that students bring in some sort of smock or old shirt to wear during art to protect their clothing. This can be left in your child's locker all year. There is no need to send it back and forth each week.
Lunch Menu
Don't forget to send in October's lunch menu with any days that your child plans on buying lunch. Thank you!

Homework
As with last week, you will find math pages to complete and a word sort to practice spelling words for this week. Read below for more information on word sorts and activities you can use at home to practice.
If you ever have any questions about the homework, just let me know!
Word Sorts
Our Word Study Schedule:
Monday: Students sort words and meet with me in groups to discuss the patterns within their words.
Tuesday: I help any students who were absent or a group I might not have gotten to meet with yet.
Thursday: Glue Sort down and review
Friday: Test
During word study time every day students also have a tic-tac-toe board full of word activities to help them practice. The goal is that by the end of the week they have completed each activity at least once. These activities are a great way to practice at home as well. I have attached a copy of this board on our website for you to use with your children. There is no need to turn in any word work that you do at home. It's just extra practice! The reason why we do sorts instead of spelling lists is so children understand the patterns within words instead of just memorizing them.
Let me know if you ever need any help!
