Book Fair and Spirit Week
A Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school from Nov. 12th-16th. Book Fairs are a great opportunity for students to find books that interest them. We know kids read more books when they get to choose their own. The more kids read, the more their reading skills improve.
Families can shop:
7:45 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. daily
Dismissal – 4:00 daily (Parents can begin at 3:15)
Thursday, 11/15 - Open after school through evening event ending at 8:00
If you choose to send money to school with your child please place it in a marked envelope (so it does not get confused with milk/lunch money, etc.). If you know the titles your child may purchase please label that as well. If you want the child to ONLY purchase books (not posters, erasers, pens, etc.) then please write that on the envelope.
Mark your calendars—Nov. 12th-16th students can participate in “All for Books”. Bring a dollar or a handful of spare silver change (no pennies please) each day & fill your class donation box. In addition to bringing in spare silver change, students can wear the assigned gear that day (see schedule below). Teachers will then be able to use that money from the class donation box and spend it directly at the book fair to purchase books for your child’s classroom library!!!
All Book Fair purchases benefit Madison by earning Scholastic Dollars which are used to purchase more library materials, homeroom books, and student books! Thanks for helping to get kids reading more.
See you at the Book Fair!

Veteran's Day Roll Call and Chats
In honor of Veteran's Day, Madison would like to invite you or any family member who is a veteran to be a guest speaker at the 2018 Veteran's Day Roll Call and Chats. This event is an opportunity for the Madison staff to help teach our students about Veteran's Day. In order for this event to be successful, each grade level needs veterans to participate in this event.
Our 2018 Veteran's Day Roll Call and Chats will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018. Students will meet together in grade level groups and will ask veterans prepared questions from 8:40-9:10 AM. Having this personal interaction with veterans helps our students learn more about what it means to be a veteran. Coffee and a light breakfast will be available for veterans and their Madison student(s) while our special guests are arriving for this event.

2nd Grade Musical - Lemonade!
We will have a dress rehearsal assembly at 2:00. Due to the limited space in the gymnasium and the number of students we have at Madison, we ask that families do not attend the dress rehearsal so that all the other grade level students can attend and experience the music performance. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Thank you,

Colder Weather and Recess
USD 231 provides playground activity areas at each elementary school site. It is important that safety and courtesy rules be followed. Rules will be regularly reviewed with your child by the staff. Students are not to remain on the playground before or after school. For safety reasons, the public is prohibited from the use of the playground activity areas during school hours. All students are expected to participate in recess.
Generally, if a child is too sick to go out to recess, he/she is too sick to be in school. There are exceptions to this rule, but it is a reasonable guideline.
There will be no outside recess when:
The temperature is 20 degrees or below
The wind chill index is 20 degrees or below
The heat index indicates a high risk
There is significant precipitation
Teachers may take their class out briefly for fresh air at their discretion. Students should be prepared for sudden changes in Kansas weather.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please let your child's teacher or Dr. Wachel know.
