It Is October! Let's Be Optimistic!
Optimistic October Is Here!
Happy Sunday to everyone. I hope you had a great weekend. October is now upon us and we are ready for another exciting month of activities, events, and celebrations. Be ready and come participate and enjoy all the great things going on. The start of any month is a great time to be Optimistic about what is in store for us. We need to continue to have the right mindset and attitude as we embrace the challenges and events we are about to encounter.
Student Identification Card Reminder
Please read the information below in the newsletter as a follow-up to the email that was sent out on Friday reminding everyone about the importance of students needing to have their ID Card on them at all times.
Progress Report Reminders
Progress report information is now available for all students. Please review the following suggestions for you and your students:
- Please make sure that you are reviewing Q and checking your student's grades.
- Please make sure to reach out to your student's teachers first for clarification, questions, and support related to questions about grades and student progress.
- Your child's counselor is also available for support, but please start with the classroom teacher
- The Tutoring Center Schedule is posted below and we have sent invites out to all students to accept the CANVAS course with all the tutoring center information
- This is a great time to review my Recipe For Success. Are we following the recipe? Have we added some other ingredients (strategies) to make our own version of the Recipe?
- Sitting down and having these important discussions can never hurt. Take the time and seek out the assistance you need. We can help in many ways, you just have to ask and we can put you on the right path!
Please make sure to review all the important information listed below for you and your students. There are many exciting events coming up sponsored by NPHS and the school district. Get them on your calendar and be there! As always, my reminder about having your version of an academic routine is important. Let's have another great week Panthers!
Routine Time!
Routine! Routine! Routine!: Now is the time for our students to really work hard and develop that consistent academic mindset and establish those important routines that will lead to successful outcomes in all classes. How can students stay the course and continue to be successful? Here are a few suggestions, for all students and parents:- Students should be building a daily academic routine, as part of an overall time management plan.
- Starting September 6, students should be taking advantage of our in-person, individual tutoring overseen by our NPHS teaching staff. CANVAS Course cards will be sent out this week to all NPHS students.
- Students should be communicating with their teachers on a consistent basis with any questions, support needed, or access to content.
- We always recommend that students and parents should start with the teacher for questions related to courses students are taking.
- Students need to be participating in the athletic teams, co-curricular groups, clubs, and interest groups that inspire them in order to find the right balance between school work and school involvement.
- Students are able to access our new Wellness Center in room E3 which is staffed by mental health clinicians. More detailed information will be sent out to staff and students.

Student Identification Card Reminder
Student Identification Card Reminder
The following email was sent to all students and parents this past Friday. Please make sure you have read the email and remind your students that they need to have the school identification card on them at all times at school.
Good evening Panthers, please review the reminder that all students must carry their school identification card with them at all times when on campus and attending any school or school district-sponsored events.
All students have been afforded the opportunity to take their pictures and get their identification cards by this time. Students that have lost their identification card can go to the student store to purchase a replacement card for $10, and then see Mrs. Larson in the activities office to get the card printed. Students can see Mrs. Larson in the activities office if there is a financial hardship to purchase a new student identification card.
There are many reasons for this policy, but the most important reason is student and staff safety. The ability for us to identify all individuals on campus during school hours is essential to provide the safest environment for all students and staff. Students also need to show their NPHS ID Card each time they use the cafeteria in order for us to move almost 800 students per day through the cafeteria in a quick and safe manner along with tracking sales and inventory. Please be advised and remind your students that:
- Students must have their school identification card on them at all times
- They are required to present their school identification card when requested by a school staff member
- Students that do not have their school identification card on them, can be assigned a detention or Saturday School.
- Students must show their identification card when accessing the cafeteria
- Starting Monday, October 3, any student that does not have their identification card will be required to wait until the first ten minutes of lunch have passed before getting in line for lunch
- Students that have an off-campus properly stamped must show the identification card when leaving or they are required to remain on campus for lunch
- Students that have an unscheduled period during the day and are leaving campus for that period, must show that their identification card is properly stamped as they exit campus.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this critical matter. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mr. Lepire

National Hispanic Heritage Month 9/15-10/15
We have been trying to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month here at NPHS in a variety of ways, one of which is playing Hispanic music at lunch on Fridays. This last Friday a wonderful dance party occurred where one of our counselors, Edith Cortes, engaged with the students during a line dancing song. This led to more and more students getting involved and dancing. The picture below is just a small glimpse of what occurred, but it was a very special day to see so many students from different groups come together and dance, laugh, and really enjoy a moment at school. We hope that this positivity continues and will be featuring a real Fiesta for our students on Oct. 14th. Details to come.
The background of this week's newsletter is "Still Life with Parrot and Fruit" , 1951 by Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo is considered one of Mexico's greatest artists. She is also viewed as the people’s painter because she endured great struggle and she fought through it. Her paintings are strongly influenced by Mexican folk culture, and use lots of bright colors and dramatic symbolism. She was inspired by traditional Mexican art which is wonderfully colorful, bright, patterned, symbolic art. Frida’s work has inspired artists to reveal their emotions, inner-turmoil, fantasies, and view-points, no matter how extreme.
“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.” ~Frida Kahlo

Reporting Absences
If your student is going to classes for any reason, please call the attendance office at 805-499-3645. La linea en espanol 498-3676 ext. 4000. All absences must be reported to the school by the student's legal guardian. Emails from students are not acceptable to report student absences. Excessive Absences (12 days of absence, excused or unexcused)
Students will be put on an attendance contract, may be required to appear at a SARB meeting, and may require a doctor’s note to excuse any future absences.
Truancy is defined as being absent without permissible clearance within 72 hours. 3 truancies will result in disciplinary action and may affect a student’s grade.

Ways to Stay Connected
High-Speed Internet for All
High-speed internet has become a necessity of modern life, which is why the Ventura CountyOffice of Education is supporting a statewide effort to make it available to everyone. The California Broadband Council is spreading the word that low-income families can receive a $30 monthly discount on home internet service and a $100 discount on a computer or tablet. There are about 80,000 households in Ventura County who are eligible for these discounts that haven’t yet applied. More information about the program is available at www.internetforallnow.org.
NPHS Technology Updates and Reminders
As we continue to support all students in their learning, every student should be bringing their devices - fully charged - to school each day. All teachers have integrated technology into their classes in some way or another. If students still need to pick up a district issued Chromebook, our tech services will be distributing on Thursday, August 25 from 1:45-3pm. Please make sure that you completed the loan agreement on your annual update in Q. This will need to be done to be issued a device.
Here are a few reminders:
- The Chromebook Loan Agreement, Bring Your Device (BYOD) Policy, and Insurance information are in Q this year as part of the Annual Update in both English and Spanish.
- Copies of all Chromebook-related documentation in both English and Spanish are available on the Technology Services webpage at https://conejousd.org/Departments/Technology-Services
- Chromebook insurance is $29 per student (compared to $44 last year) and includes one-time replacement coverage for power cords/adapters. We highly recommend the purchase of insurance for all students
- Insurance Flyer: https://conejousd.org/Portals/0/Departments/Technology%20Services/CVUSD%20Flyer%20EN.pdf?ver=2022-08-10-080818-920
Student Devices: Reminders To Take Proper Care of the Devices
Student Devices-Students need to close files and folders, Browsers, and Logoff/Sign Off daily.
Below are some best practice recommendations to keep your Laptop or PC working at optimum performance. At the end of the day please complete the following steps:
1) Close all documents and folders daily.
2) Close all web browsers daily (Google Chrome, Edge, Firefox). Google Chrome is the recommended Browser for all District needs. Classlink/Canvas, Webmail, ZOOM, & Q.
3) Log off or Sign Out your device daily. This is important.
4) Shut down the device. Twice a week. Open-Start (lower-left corner Windows Flag)-Power-Hold down the shift key-Shutdown.
5) Please leave the system turned off for at least one minute.
6) Turn On the system.
7) Should the system require updates and/or a reboot. Verify that the AC adapter is connected.
Please do not close the lid and walk away from the Laptop, Chromebook, or PC. This will place the device in sleep mode. We have seen connections fail on occasion.
