Message from Ms. Lambert
Dear Parents,
PTA is a very important part of the home-school connection. The first general meeting for all Castro parents is Wed. Sept. 28th at 6:30 p.m. There are refreshments and childcare to help make this easy for you! PTA raises money to provide extra services and supplies for all students and also plans fun school-wide activities. Your opinions and approval are a required part of PTA operations - please make the time to come to these PTA General meetings every other month. Your time and effort is very much appreciated by the staff and students.
Best Regards,
Principal at Mariano Castro

The Walkathon Update (WAT)
The Walkathon is coming on October 7th and so is the construction, but we have a plan!
Where are the students going to walk?
Our annual Walkathon normally takes place on the field. In preparation for the construction, fencing will be put up mid-September, which will block off part of the field. The WAT team, along with both PTAs and principals, have designed a plan for the students to walk a path that takes them around the fenced area. This will create a loop that is partially on the field and partially on the blacktop.
What else is new this year? Two shirt marking stations at opposite ends of the course to provide extra supervision and validation for the longer distance.
Same as before…
Rainbow photo of combined schools and the preschool
T-Shirts for all, each school will have their logo on front (Colors remain the same by grade level)
Lap markers & lap prizes
A T-Shirt prize- if student walks the Maximum Laps
Food tables open an extra hour after walking (5pm-6pm)
And all the other great things we remember!
What do we do next?
Turn in your child’s Salmon/Orange colored permission form
T-Shirt Donation
We ask each family for a $10 donation to cover this cost. While many families made the donation at Class Posting (Thank You!) we are still short almost $1000! Please make your donation in the Mistral / Castro School Office TODAY.
Consider sponsoring another child for $10
Volunteer! Sign-up sheets will be posted around campus & in the office
Read the sidewalk signs, banners or the newsletter for what’s coming up

Be In School Be On Time
We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:
Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick
Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
