A Note From Mrs. Mathe

We had a wonderful first week back to school! It is so wonderful to see the growing confidence of all our Powell Panthers over these last 3 days as they are making new friends and learning how to be a part of their new classroom communities.

I know that many of you may have questions regarding our plans for returning to school. At this time, we are following the guidelines established by CISD. We will continue to incorporate hand washing into our daily routines. We will continue to have hand sanitizing stations throughout the school. E-misting will occur nightly in all classrooms. Masks are optional, but encouraged, for all students, staff, and guests, amongst other things. Our goal is to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff while promoting a positive learning and working environment.

Below we wanted to highlight some frequently asked questions, some of which are addressed in our Powell Parent Handbook addendum.

FAQs

Are we allowed to walk our children to class?

After the first day, children are encouraged to walk independently to class. If they need assistance, we have staff on hand to help them find their way.

Will parents be allowed to eat lunch with their children?

Tentatively, we will begin lunch visitors on September 7th.

Are volunteers allowed on campus?

Currently, we are limiting volunteers on campus.

Are children socially distanced at lunch?

Yes. We continued our lunch room procedures from last year to lessen the number of students in the cafeteria. We seat one grade level at a time and students are spaced apart, 2 students to a bench.

Will I be notified if someone tests positive for COVID at Powell?

During periods of higher community transmission, general campus and classroom notifications for positive cases will be sent via email. More information regarding our plan for a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services can be found on the Roadmap to Remaining Open.

Most all other questions regarding Powell's daily routines, processes and procedures can be found in our Parent Handbook Addendum linked below.

In this event, the addendum will be updated, and you will be notified via letter, email, or website. I want to encourage you to visit our school website at http://powell.conroeisd.net as important information and events will be posted there frequently. In fact, you may want to bookmark this address for easy access. The 2021-2022 Conroe Independent School District Student/Parent Handbook is available to you online here.

Prescreening for our Safety

Self-Prescreening: To ensure the health and safety of all students and staff, all individuals should conduct self pre-screening for COVID-19 symptoms. Individuals waiting for COVID-19 test results due to symptoms or individuals currently experiencing any of the symptoms listed that are new and/or not normal for them, should stay home and consider seeking medical care and/or COVID-19 testing. Symptoms consistent with COVID-19 include:

  • fatigue
  • cough or shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • congestion or runny nose
  • significant muscle pain or body aches
  • loss of taste or smell in the last 10 days
  • diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
  • feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0F

Roadmap to Remaining Open

The most up to date information regarding the district's plan to remaining open through this pandemic can be found on the Roadmap to Remaining Open.

Parent Acces Center

Parent Access Center (PAC) is the CISD system for parents which provides online access to all your child’s class assignments, assignment grades, test grades, as well as attendance, discipline, progress reports, and report cards. If you currently have a Parent Access Center account, there is no need to renew your account as you have had to do in previous years. Parents can register for a PAC account from the Conroe ISD home page under the Student/Parent link. Student data will not be available until school begins.

IMPORTANT: Free and Reduced Meals Application

Even though breakfast and lunch are being provided for all students again this year, if you believe you may qualify for free or reduced meals it is still important for your family to complete the application. Your application does not carry over from year to year. Qualification may open up other opportunities for your family in addition to meals as noted below.
