Entry Point: Amazing Animals!

The Prep 1 children arrived at school on Tuesday to discover something had been in our room overnight. It was some type of wild creature! Could have been a lion, hippopotamus, or perhaps even a monkey? We searched for clues and used what knowledge we acquired to search for the break-in beast. The case in on-going, and we are all wondering if the offending animal will come back?!

This exercise proved an excellent Entry Point for our Amazing Animals! IPC unit. The scene was set for the children to get super excited about their learning - and we followed up this activity exploring the Singapore map and chose a focus animal to research both in the classroom and on our upcoming trip to the zoo. Please take the opportunity over the weekend to ask your child about their own animal of choice!

In Language Arts we focused on the digraph /ie/ and the Magic 100 words, /said/ and /so/. We began writing non-fiction books about animals in writer's workshop and started a letter-writing campaign to the zoo to find more information out about our research animals. For Mathematics we revised numbers from 1-10 and explored understanding the value of numbers up to 20. We also used our virtue of perseverance to represent numbers from 1 to 20 in writing.

What an exciting week!

Virtues Super Hero Day!

Today was a fun action-packed day full of excitement and wonder as the children celebrated the 'power' of the 'Virtues Project'. Everyone showed off their favorite virtue in the form of a 'Virtues Super Hero!'. Our amazing SJIIES souls showed us that true outstanding abilities come from the heart.
