Message from Ms. Rivera

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your family, and I am excited to welcome many new families to Smith! Family engagement is important and essential, and you will see that we have many activities for families to have fun and to also support learning at home.


This semester is going to fly by, and I spoke with the kids this week about working hard to prepare for the next grade level. At Smith, we value hard work, having a growth mindset, and not giving up, especially when tasks get hard. I am looking forward to seeing the growth our kids will make!

PTO News

PTO has several fun events planned for our kids this semester which include the Father-Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Night, Spring Carnival, and the International Night, which is on January 27th.


International Night celebrates cultures from around the world. We are looking for performances for the show. In the past, we have had Indian dancers, baile folklorico, German dancers, and more. We have also had booths set up to highlight different cultures, such as Mexican sweetbread snacks and Native American crafts. If you are interested in participating, contact our PTO president Tiffany Allday at tallday@magnoliaisd.org.

Absences and Transportation Changes

Visit the Smith website to make transportation changes and report absences. A picture of the forms from the website are below. If you are unable to use the form, you can send absent slips and report absences to sesattendance@magnoliaisd.org, however, try to use the forms before calling the school or sending emails. All absent reporting and transportation changes should go through these forms and not through emails or messages sent to the teacher.


Important Times

6:30 - Early Morning Childcare begins in the cafeteria - student drop-off in the back

7:30 - Early Morning Childcare drop-off ends - students must now go through the car rider line

7:45 - Front doors open

8:05 - Morning assembly begins

8:30 - Tardy bell - students must be in their classrooms at this time

2:00 - Cut-off time for transportation changes

2:45 - Cut-off time for picking up students early
