Soft Closure Extended Through the End of the Year*
If you and your child(ren) are anything like our staff, this news leaves you with a heavy heart for many reasons. We were hoping that we could return to the building for "learning as usual" this year and are sad that won't be the case. In addition to wishing we could see our students each day, we will be sad to miss out on so many of our beloved spring events that celebrate learning, the arts, and OUR STUDENTS. Regardless ... we are committed to supporting our students and families to ensure a positive and productive end to the 2019-20 school year.
*The state board decision leaves the potential for students to return to class IF state/federal social distancing guidelines are lifted AND certain criteria (yet to be determined) are met.
Pioneer Thanks You!
First Remote Learning Packets to be Distributed MONDAY!
These packets will consist of a week's worth of daily learning activities. The activities were created or selected by your children's teachers because they will provide valuable practice and application of skills that they have learned and/or were working on before track break.
We expect that students will be able to complete these tasks mostly independently, without the use of technology. If they need help, students (or their parents) can reach out for support in a manner your teacher will share with you. Please see our LAST NEWSLETTER for more information about our plans for remote learning.
Please understand that this work will not be collected and while we will be providing a "daily schedule", you can adapt, modify, and engage in the remote learning opportunities in a way that works for you and your family's specific circumstances. Here are some Tips for Home Learning that might help make the experience more positive.
Packet Distribution: Hard Copy Packets
Where: Outside of Pioneer's front entry
When: Monday (8am) - Tuesday (5pm) ... Starting April 13
What we are trying to accomplish with our plan ...
- Flexibility: We hope that having the packets outside all day/overnight Monday and until 5pm on Tuesday will accommodate most of our families' schedules.
- Social Distancing: The distribution bins will be separated, we will not have staff handing out packets, and we hope the broad pickup window will spread out pickups to help reduce interactions and contact between students/families. Please help everyone by only sending one person to grab the packets for your family out of the appropriate bins, maintaining 6' between you and other students/families, and only touching packets you will take with you.
- Everyone Who Needs One ... Gets One: We are hoping to ensure that everyone who needs a hard-copy packet will get one and sincerely hope that no family arrives to an empty bin. Please take only one packet per child from his/her grade-level bin. We added a buffer to the number of packets requested by families from our teacher phone calls but if all packets are missing, or if you notice that the bin is down to the last few packets, please e-mail our principal (jakious.david@westada.org).
Note: If you require a hard copy packet, cannot print off-site, AND picking up at school creates an unresolvable hardship, please e-mail jakious.david@westada.org to see if a solution can be worked out.
School Supply Packets
- Pencils
- Lined and blank paper
- Crayons
- Glue stick
THESE PACKETS WILL BE LIMITED. Thank you for helping us ensure that families that need these supplies get them by taking a supply packet if you indicated you needed one on the phone call with your teacher OR have since discovered that you will need a supply packet to complete learning activities at home.
Packet Distribution: Electronic Packets
E-Mail: Teachers will send home a weekly e-mail with the Remote Learning Packet attached.
Website: The school will post each packet on the Remote Learning section of the Pioneer website. You can find them by clicking on that link or going to our www.westada.org/pioneer and clicking on Remote Learning near the top of the page. Please be aware that this portion of the webpage will not be active until the afternoon of 4/10 and the packets won't be active until 5pm on Sunday each week.
Tips for Printing at Home:
- You may want to select "auto portrait/landscape" before printing so that it does not try to force them all to the same format if there is a mix of page orientations.
- Often times you will NOT need a hard copy of EVERY page of the learning packet. If you are printing at home, you might want to look through the document to determine which pages will be essential to have a hard copy and which provide guidance for tasks that could be competed on notebook paper.
Free Breakfast & Lunch Combo Meals for Kids
FREE Breakfast & Lunch Combo Meals for kids ages 1-18 will be available Monday - Friday, from 11am - 1pm. Go to https://www.westada.org/FreeMeals for more information.
