Toms River High School East

Newsletter - May 16, 2022

Dear Families,

How was your weekend? I picked up my younger daughter from college and brought her home for the summer. She is attending Marist College and majoring in Fashion Merchandising. She will be interning in the New York City this summer and am happy to have her home. She will be attending school in Florence, Italy in the fall. My other daughter is graduating this weekend from Fairfield University in Nursing. It all goes so quick!

I watched Operation Mincemeat on Netflix and would highly recommend to war drama lovers! I enjoy those types of films and thought the story and acting were exceptional! Based on a true story!

Top 10 Announced!

I am so pleased to announce our Top 10 academically ranked seniors for the Class of 2022. I am more than aware of the challenges and demands required to achieve this rank and could not be more proud of the kids! I informed them all this morning they are all proud reflections of our school community. I hope they take a few moments to reflect on their efforts and subsequent accomplishments over the past four years. They all have bright futures ahead of themselves. I wish them safety, health, and happiness in the future!

Senior of the Month!

Food Trucks and Fire Pits

Our Military Club, under the leadership of advisor Mr. Scott Kenny, held our Food Trucks and Fire Pits on Thursday evening. All guests were welcome as we celebrated our East community. Funds raised that evening will go in support of our goal to install a Ropes Course on the property. The goal of the course will be to promote leadership and character skills! Great job Military Club!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Rachel Singer for being recognized as the Brick Vocational Student of the Year! We are very proud of you Rachel!

Big picture

May Pole Event!

Mr. Joel Tourjee and his student participated in a May Pole Event last week! The ceremonial folk dance is performed around a tall pole garlanded with greenery or flowers and often hung with ribbons that are woven into complex patterns by the dancers. Such dances are survivals of ancient dances around a living tree as part of spring rites to ensure fertility. Thank you Mr. Tourjee for going above and beyond for your students!

Congratulations!

The Work Based Learning (WBL) Scholarship Award is selected by Mr. John C. Hillard, who is the Chairperson for the New Jersey Cooperative Education Association. Ms. Tesoro nominated Nina Casalino for this award as she always goes above and beyond in the CAP program and in her volunteer placement at The Toms River Police Department. The criteria for the award included a nomination from Ms. Tesoro, submission of an application, resume, recommendation letters from Sgt. Pedalino, and her digital portfolio. Congratulations Nina for being a proud reflection of our school community!

Covid Testing

Through our partnership with Longview Testing Services and the Broad Institute, we have been able to offer weekly COVID-19 testing for students whose families would like to take advantage of this service. At this stage, we plan to continue to offer this service to our families who have registered, but on a per-need basis only. The completion of this Google Form will enable parents to have their child COVID-tested within 48 hours, should they have a need to do so. Once the survey is completed, a representative from Toms River Regional Schools will be in contact with you to arrange the time and location of the test.

As always, we thank you for your flexibility as we get this option for families up and running.

Testing

We completed our AP Testing last week and will follow up with make-ups the week of the 16th. We also completed our NJSLA Science testing for our 11th graders on Thursday and Friday of last week. This week, we will complete our 9th grade math and English NJSLA testing.
