From Mr. Baker, Principal

Hello Ankeney Families,

The last four weeks of the 2021-2022 school year are upon us and it is full of many exciting events as we celebrate our students accomplishments this year! The week of May 9th we will complete our final round of MAP testing. We are also excited to hear our final Choir and Band concerts of the year where our students will be able to showcase their talents and all of the growth they have made this year on stage at BHS. We are also excited to see our students art work from throughout the year at our district and building Art Shows this month.

We have additional fun events planned this month including our 6th and 7th grade Field Days on May 23rd and our "Oh Wow Day" planned for May 24th. The end of the school year is the perfect time to celebrate our district's character education theme, Better Together. Here at Ankeney, we will be mixing things up on Tuesday, May 24 to allow staff and students with common interests to connect the last two hours of the day.

I look forward to celebrating all of our students accomplishments with you throughout this month! We are ready for a great end to the school year and appreciate your continued support as we finish strong, The Charger Way! We hope you have a fun and relaxing summer break.

Go Chargers!

Did You Know??? - Staff Appreciation

You may not be aware, but Ankeney has many staff that have worked at Ankeney for many years, attended Ankeney as a student, or had their own children attend Ankeney for their middle school years. As this has been another unprecedented school year, we reflect on the dedication of our staff who work hard each day to provide positive experiences for all students. During Staff Appreciation Week, May 2-6, we will honor our staff with help from our PTO!

Shine Award

Our Shine Award recipient for the month of March is 7th grader Synclair Smith! Synclair is an all- around wonderful young lady. Each day she comes to school and exemplifies the Charger Way. Synclair works well with all students and wants to help others. She treats peers and adults with kindness and has a genuine curiosity and care for things going on with them. This really shows in her thoughtful contributions to Character Education lessons each week. Synclair is also a conscientious student and is involved in our school community. One of the best things about Synclair is that she is confident in who she is which sets such a great example for her peers. I'm so glad she joined us at AMS this year. Congratulations, Synclair, on being a student of character!

School Yearbooks

If your student preordered a yearbook, we hope to have them and distribute during Flex the last week of school. We may have a limited amount of extra yearbooks available that will be available for $50, cash only.

Chromebook Reminders

Please have your child charge their Chromebooks every night. A Chromebook that is never charged and goes to 0% is much harder to charge. If the red light does not come on and stay on while charging, it IS NOT charging. If this occurs, you must plug it in and out of the port until the light becomes a solid red light. This can take a few minutes or several hours depending on how long it was at 0%.

If your child has a broken charger, they need to bring it to the IMC and get a new one. You will not be charged for a broken charger as long as the broken one is turned in.

If your child is having issues with their Chromebook not working properly, they need to come to the IMC. We will try to troubleshoot the issue. If we cannot fix it, we will issue them a new one or issue them a loaner that they can take home.

We realize that on occasion a student will forget their Chromebook at home. We can issue a loaner but it MUST be turned in at the end of the day. If it goes home, the student will be issued a detention. Borrowing a loaner is a privilege and if a student abuses this, they may get a detention after 2 times. SO please remind your child to charge their Chromebooks and bring them to school.

Upcoming Art Shows

Over 300 pieces of art will be on display during both of these shows:

Thursday, May 12

5:30-8:30

BHS Commons

Tuesday, May 17

6:30-8:30

BHS Commons

6th Grade Coloring Competition

Sixth-grade ELA students competed in a grade-level Eggcellent coloring competition. All students colored the same egg and then voted on their favorites. Top vote-getters received popcorn and a pop! Teacher choice winners received popcorn, pop, and stamps. It was an eggstravaganza!

From the School Nurse

If your child has medication or supplies stored in the Ankeney clinic, please pick them up by the end of the school day on Wednesday, May 25, or make arrangements with the school nurse to pick them up at a later date. The office will be open until June 3. New doctor's orders along with medications/supplies need to be brought in each school year. We cannot store items over the summer. Anything not picked up will be disposed of.

Medical forms can be printed from the District website by going to www.gocreek.org, click on "Forms.” Each medication or doctor's order needs to be on a separate form signed by the doctor and the parent/guardian. The nurse can be reached at 937-458-2509 if you have questions. Have a great summer!

Transportation Update

In order to streamline efficient bus routes, parents must now request transportation services. We will no longer route all elementary and middle school students as a standard rule as we have done in the past. Please request bussing along with any daycare/shared parenting via OneView starting the end of next week.
