Eagle Sightings February
Holly Wehner, Principal
Dear FHES Eagle Families and Caregivers,
As we begin this month of February, we see more light in our days, and there is a sense of things lightening up around us. Families and staff members have worked so hard to continue to support our students in their learning, as well as in their social/emotional growth, and safety. Your continued partnership is very appreciated. In the past few months I have had the opportunity to talk with many families, and it is clear that there are many differing opinions and beliefs when it comes to how to keep our children safe. This brings me to our character trait of the month, -Empathy-The ability to understand and connect to the feelings of another. We need to understand that all opinions and beliefs are real. If we don’t see eye to eye with another’s beliefs or policies on a topic, we can all understand and connect with the feeling of wanting the best for our children/students. Ask your child to show you the actions that go along with the definition of empathy. It may lead to a great conversation about how he/she has shown empathy, or if someone else has shown them empathy. Here at FHES, we continue to feel grateful for our days at school in person with students, and we thank you for your continued patience and support.
In Cooperation,
Holly Wehner
Counselor's Corner February 2022
This month our focus is kindness, empathy, and personal safety! The week of Feb 14-18 will be KINDNESS WEEK at FHES. Students will have the opportunity to complete a “Random acts of Kindness” checklist during the week, participate in special recess-time activities, and enjoy a week of spirit days!
February 14 - Color your world with kindness (dress in colors or rainbows)
February 15 - Team Kindness (sports day)
February 16 - Love our school day (eagles shirts or blue/gray colors)
February 17 - Crazy for Kindness (crazy hair day)
February 18 - Dreaming of kindness (PJ day)
Second Step lessons: Students in 3rd -5th have started classroom lessons on personal safety - learning many safety rules such as wearing helmets, not swimming alone, asking before petting someone’s dog, safety online, etc.. These lessons are being taught by guest teachers from Safe San Juan. In K-2nd, students are learning skills for learning in the classroom, such as how to focus your attention, use your positive self-talk to get through challenges, calming strong emotions, how to ignore distractions, etc. Our guest teacher for these lessons is Ashley from the Family Resource Center.
Please keep your eye out for home-link papers that show what your student is learning!
