Distance Learning
What are the expectations for students working online during our extended break?
The most important thing to remember is that families are not expected to recreate school at home. The staff members of CHS have developed enrichment opportunities that build on previously introduced material. These activities are 100% optional and will not be counted for a grade. Check out this link for more detail on what learning at home should look like.
What is the right balance?
It is not realistic to expect students to engage in school work 7 or more hours per day during this extended break. There is no right answer that fits the needs of each family. Ultimately, the goal is to utilize what is provided in a way that makes the most sense for you. Here is a document provided by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on how to best support your student during this time.
What about grades for the semester?
For now, we aren't sure. Without knowing when we will be back together at school, no decision can be made on how grades will be calculated. With that said, all CHS teachers have opened all assignments and assessments from the second semester for students to re-attempt or turn in. The best thing to do is focus on these previous assignments that are counted for grades. With so much uncertainty, improving previously turned in or due assignments is something we can control. Improving previous assignments, if necessary, should be the priority.
Are paper copies available?
No packets are being provided for enrichment opportunities. This decision was made for the purpose of limiting exposure between individuals and doing what we can to reduce the risk of exposure and the spread of COVID-19.
You are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Casey, Mrs. Hickman, or Mrs. Waisner with any concerns in regard to your student completing the enrichment opportunities.
What should students enrolled in Dual Credit be doing?
The expectations for these courses, if taken for college credit, are determined by OTC. Students are expected to continue to cover new material and submit assignments. Students need to be checking Canvas frequently and communicating with their teacher.
If you are enrolled in a dual credit course and no longer wish to take the course for college credit, please email Mrs. Waisner (waisnerr@cleverbluejays.org) as soon as possible.
My student is enrolled in an AP course, how will these courses proceed?
Students are asked to frequently check Canvas and communicate with their teacher. AP exams will be administered this year for those wishing to take them.
Here is a link to the AP COVID-19 Updates Page.
My student is enrolled in MOCAP, how has this effected him/her?
Students enrolled in the Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP) are required to continue to make progress and complete their course(s).
How should students enrolled in Plato/Edmentum course(s) proceed?
With these being web-based, the expectation is that students complete their course(s). If you have questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Waisner (waisnerr@cleverbluejays.org) or Mr. Casey (caseyj@cleverbluejays.org).
Students will need to stay in contact with the course facilitator (Mr. McGarry, Ms. Lathem, or Coach Jones) through the duration of the hiatus to ensure adequate progress is made.
