School Improvement Plan Update
Each school in Greenwich develops a School Improvement Plan which includes Academic, Personal, and Interpersonal Goals for the school year. The Julian Curtiss academic goal has been focused on an analysis of math performance and math instruction for the past three years, assisting teachers and students in reaching new levels of performance each year. Our personal goal this year focuses on the Second Step Program aligning to the goals of the district’s Vision of the Graduate. The goal focuses on helping students to conduct themselves in an ethical and responsible manner, as well as respond to failures and successes with reflection and resilience. Our interpersonal goal focuses on teaching students to set personal goals for their learning and to be able to communicate that goal and their progress through conferences with their teachers and parents.
We predict assessment scores at Julian Curtiss will increase as we continue to implement the strategy of personalized learning for all. Following an analysis at the end of the 2017-2018 school year, Julian Curtiss teachers have identified doing an in-depth analysis of the vertical progressions of the mathematical standards as a component to increase the effectiveness of student conferences. More comprehensive knowledge of the standards above and below the grade levels the teachers are responsible for will allow them to be more flexible in their use of the content, and further facilitate personalized learning for students. This strategy of meeting students at their effective entry point of learning benefits all students in moving forward on the trajectory of success.
The School Data Team is in charge of conducting an analysis of the knowledge and skills required of students to perform well in our units of study based on the CT Common Core Standards. We have been working hard as a staff to increase our depth of knowledge of mathematics to teach these standards. Attached you will find our action plan with measures of success and status updates. This is a “living document” and is updated often. It is always available on our website for you to review.

GPS SEL Day - Who is your superhero? (Let go and move on)
On Wednesday, April 24h GPS will be celebrating the Let Go and Move On - Who Is Your Superhero? event.
This is a common initiative across grade levels to promote appreciation for the people who make a difference in our lives - Our Superheroes.
Students will take this opportunity to:
- Talk about the most important people in their life, their parents, teachers, mentors, coaches, etc.
- Share the qualities that make those people special/personal Superheroes
- Engage in a practice of gratitude and appreciation toward the special people they identified.
Follow-up questions for caregivers:
- Who is your superhero and want is their “superpower”?
- If you had a superpower what would that be? Why?
- How would you use your superpower to make the world a better place?
