2023-2024 School Year :: Week of January 8, 2024
A Message from Mrs. Hankins
JSE Families and Friends,
Happy new year! We are thankful for time with our family and friends and rest over the holiday break. There are MANY pictures of all of the fun we had the week before break. So many things to celebrate such as Holiday Reading Day, Principals for the Day, and Junior SROs.
We are also eager to see everyone again. We start this week coming back to the second semester where material may becoming more challenging as we are applying the skills learned, and we continue to strive for growth and excellence, even if the failed moments.
Each year my family and I participate in Jon Gordon's "One Word Challenge". Rather than focus on a resolution, we choose a word to help us live our year by. This year, my word is "Moment" in that I savor the moments I have with others- the good, bad, and in-between. Often we can get caught up in the hustle and bustle, and I want to cherish those moments in time as often as I can. I encourage you all to think of one word that you wish to guide your 2024 year. And if you're still curious look up Jon Gordon or Nancy Skee at Olde Square Inn for more inspiration.
I hope whatever you do this year, resolutions, change, progress, etc. you find love, peace, and happiness in whatever you do!
*Edit* Despite no internet or phones, our students and staff were amazing at getting back into the groove and learning. The smiles, hugs, and hard work continued strong! I'm so proud! In the "moment" we were able to overcome an obstacle and preserve together!
You are loved at JSE,
Mrs. Hankins

Inclement Weather Protocol
If we need to close school we can have a "traditional" snow day and have the day off. These would result in us making up the day in one of our snow days in February.
We are allowed three asynchronous days, or e-learning without the teacher supporting, where students do the work assigned to them on their chromebooks or packets. We use one of these for elementary conferences each year. This counts as a day of school.
Next, we are allowed as many synchronous days as needed. These days we will be online but with teacher support. The elementary schedule is posted below. This counts as a day of school.
As weather gets sketchy, we may be sending Chromebooks back and forth in the event of a possible closure. This does not mean we will certainly have a virtual day, but just preparation.
If you ever have any questions, please reach out to the office or your child's teacher.
