Summer is just around the corner! Whether you are traveling to escape the heat or remaining close to home, we wish you and your family a joyful summer!
In this issue, you'll read about a few of our upcoming Gifted Parent Seminars. DVUSD Gifted Services is excited to offer two Parent Seminars at the start of the 2023-24 school year. Our kick-off seminar will guide parents through understanding Deer Valley's Gifted Service Model. Subsequent opportunities will provide families with key strategies to support their child's cognitive skills, emotional competencies and social/ interpersonal skills. You won't want to miss our fall lineup! Take a look below for more information.
SUMMER Gifted Testing is just around the corner. This year, Summer Gifted Testing will occur between June 5th and June 16th. Students in Kindergarten thru 11th grades are eligible to participate in Summer Gifted Testing. Read on for additional information.
As Deer Valley continues to grow its gifted programming, we are honored to share the announcement that RENAISSANCE is coming to Hillcrest Middle School! Hillcrest is launching its 7-8 Global Studies Academy for Highly Gifted Learners in 2023-24. Additional information is provided below.

Join Dr. Aimee Sulit as she provides an overview of the continuum of gifted services available in DVUSD. Parents will gain insights into various program models to determine which services best fit their children’s distinctive needs.

PARENT SEMINAR #2: Meeting the Needs of the Gifted Child
Presenter: Dr. Laura Wingers, Founder of CENTER Psychology & Consulting
Do you know a gifted learner with anxiety, trouble focusing, and/or executive function challenges? Then join us!
◦ Identify COGNITIVE SKILLS (executive functions, and beliefs and attitudes about learning) impacting your gifted learner.
◦ Identify EMOTIONAL COMPETENCIES (how to recognize and manage emotions, understand others’ emotions and perspectives, and cope with frustration) that every child needs.
◦ Identify SOCIAL and INTERPERSONAL SKILLS (resolving conflicts, working effectively in a team, demonstrating empathy and compassion) as they related to the unique needs of highly and profoundly gifted students.
◦ Find BALANCE and MAKE A PLAN to improve well-being and support healthy functioning at school and at home.

HILLCREST RENAISSANCE ACADEMY
Hillcrest Middle School's is launching its 7-8 Renaissance Program in 2023-24. Hillcrest's Global Studies Renaissance Academy is designed to provide highly gifted learners with unique educational opportunities. Hillcrest's Renaissance Program is founded on the Teaming Model to foster positive social and emotional student connections. Hillcrest's Renaissance Program provides a comprehensive approach that is responsive to the unique academic, creative, social and emotional needs of the precocious gifted child.
