Happy Veteran's Day
November 11th is Veteran's Day.
To our men and women in uniform, as well as their families, thank you for your service.
In lieu of Veteran's Day, I would like to highlight some of the work our classrooms are doing to learn about and/or honor our service men and women (past and present).
For Halloween, Ms. Tulli's class collected candy (from their Trick-or-Treating at home) to donate to service men and women. The students learned about the importance of giving to others. With guidance, students discussed what their donation would mean to its' recipients. The students graciously donated some of their Halloween candy that they had collected trick-or-treating. Students did not simply donate candy that they did not like, but they donated some of their favorites, as they thought others would enjoy it as much as they would! Students counted and tallied each type of candy to record how much they had collected. I was impressed by the students' enthusiasm and compassion!
This week, Mrs. Gilson will utilize Veteran's Day related text and media during library and computer classes.
Intermediate classes will listen to “The Wall” by Eve Bunting and watch an educational clip on Veteran’s Day to prompt guided discussion. Then, to support their ELA unit of study, they will read articles on Veteran’s Day on Pebblego and practice paraphrasing.
During library, Senior classes will hear “America’s White Table” , and then practice paraphrasing from leveled Encyclopedia articles on Veteran’s Day.
