Early Release Day!

This Thursday September 26th is our first "Early Release Day." Your child will be dismissed at 1:10pm on Wednesday. Your child will also take their same transportation home as they do on a daily basis. Let me know if you have any questions.

Book Orders

I wanted to send an HUGE thank you for all who ordered books this month. We had so many participants from our class that I was able to 15+ new books for our classroom! The books should be here next week!

Also, I did this last year and found it very successful so I decided to do it again. I asked my family and friends if they would make a donation for all of my students to receive a book each month. Happy to say that we are fully funded! YAY!!!!!! (we will be writing thank you's to our donors) Your child will be receiving a free book each month. For those of you that order, it is usually the $1 book for the month so you may not want to purchase that one yourself.

Library

Today we made our 2nd visit to the library. It is not our normal "library day" but I signed up for an extra check out so students could get books from the library weekly. Students came home with their first book today! Your child should return his/her book before the following weeks check out. To clarify...we have media on Cycle Day 7 (specialist time) and we will also have an additional check out on Cycle Day 2.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Updates....

PTO: A huge thank you for those that were able to attend our Jackson PTO meeting last Monday! I heard our class was well represented! PTO is a great way to get involved so keep it up:)

Grandparents/Special Friends Day: I've had a few emails so I thought I would just send a quick note. Grandparents/Special Friends Day is Friday October 4th from 9:30-10:45am. Your child may invite his/her grandparent or grandparents and special friends this day. They will have a chance to chat with Mr. Bjerken and then head to our class to spend some awesome time with your child. More details will come but let me know if you have any questions.

What did we learn this week?

Reading: We learned how to "turn and talk" about different read alouds this week. This is a concept that we will be doing throughout the year with many different stories. It allows the students to voice their opinion on every question.

Writing: I continued modeling the the writing process. (Think, Draw, Say and Test, Clap and Count, Write) The students are orally telling me their sentence stating the "Who" and "Did What?"

Phonics: We finished meeting all of our zoo phonics friends and learned that each friend has a favorite letter. This will help students with beginning, middle and ending sounds as they begin to write sentences.

We also learned the poem "Humpty Dumpty" and the word "the." We also learned what a rhyming word is and a few songs to remember them by.

Math: We took the numbers 4-8 and talked about different ways we see that number. We created a chart and showed each number in different ways. (cubes, dominos, tallies, finger flashing, and ten-frames)
