Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
A Message from the Superintendent, Mr. Steve Baldwin
Dear Marian Family,
I would like to thank everyone once again for the warm welcome and kind words as I join the Marian family! The more folks I meet, the more I see why Marian is as respected as it is as a top tier Catholic high school in our state!
Over the next few months, I look forward to meeting with key stakeholders that will assist me in gaining certain perspective and institutional knowledge to best prepare me for the years ahead. It will be us working together as one cohesive team that will best position us to continue the great work here at Marian.
I hope all of you had a safe and memorable 4th of July and have a blessed rest of your summer! I look forward to seeing you on campus!
Respectfully,
Steve Baldwin
...A Little Background on Mr. Baldwin
Mr. Baldwin’s hiring is the successful culmination of a several months-long process which involved a national search firm, interviews with the Executive Committee of our Council of Administration and with an interviewing committee, as well as meetings with our school administration, school faculty and staff, members of our school community, and then a final interview with Bishop Malloy. And now the search firm will continue to partner with us and Steve over the next year to help ensure a successful transition.
Mr. Baldwin has been the President and CEO of Guerin College Preparatory High School since August of 2012 and an adjunct faculty member of Robert Morris University in Chicago since 2008. He is a devoted Catholic, who brings a wealth of experience in team building, organizational and financial management, fund development, and business acumen, as well as a real passion for developing future Catholic leaders through strong academics and faith identity.
Prior to his work at Guerin, he was chief strategy and development officer at OMNI Youth Services in Buffalo Grove from 2006 to 2012; served as senior director of major gifts and director of development for Resurrection Health Care in Chicago from 2005 to 2006; was Chief Development Officer at Joliet Catholic Academy from 2002 to 2005 and, prior to that, worked in global marketing and communication at Panduit Corporation in Tinley Park, Illinois.
Mr. Baldwin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a minor in Communication and English from Loras College in Dubuque, and a Master of Business Administration from North Central College in Naperville. He and his wife Natasha have two children, and a third on the way.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Baldwin, and continue your prayers for him and all of us during this exciting time of transition. Mary, Mother of the Faithful, pray for us!

BECOME A HOST FAMILY FOR AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT!
Dear Marian Central Parents,
As you may know from previous messages, we are currently looking for a family who is interested in hosting an international student for the 2017-18 academic year. Incoming 9th grader, Bobby, has been studying in the U.S. for the past year in New York. He enjoys playing chess, cooking, and drawing. He has also been given recommendations by several of his former teachers as an academically excellent student. We are working with the IPERC Foundation to find a great family willing to provide this student with a safe and loving home. Families are provided a $900 monthly stipend to help with the cost of caring for another child and simply must provide the student with their own room, all meals aside from school lunches, and transportation to/from school. If you are interested in hosting Bobby, please contact Mike Maloney at mmaloney@marian.com or Allison Rudd, Program Director, IPERC at arudd@iperc.org to answer any additional questions. Thank you for your consideration.

SHOP LOCATION:
For those who missed the Lands's End Fitting Event last month, there is a Lands' End Shop in the Sears store in Vernon Hills, IL should you need to try on specific uniform pieces. Online ordering is very easy: visit Lands End online, and our uniform selections are easily available to view, along with our gym uniform! The sizing chart at their online store is very helpful, and Lands' End customer service is absolutely amazing!
UNIFORM/SHOE POLICY:
We will not be making any major changes to the uniform policy for the 2017-2018 school year, so please refer to our Uniform Visual Guide for requirements. We have noticed a few students wearing non-Marian uniform pants: please know this is considered "out of uniform" and the students will be issued warnings and detentions. Also - consider purchasing one of the fleece jackets or pull-overs we now offer as part of the uniform.
Please place your uniform orders early enough to receive them before August 16th!
As far as shoes go - we will be expanding our shoe choices to include any SOLID-COLORED shoe within the neutral/khaki-spectrum (white, brown, navy, black) so go ahead and grab a pair of inexpensive white canvas shoes to go with the Marian shorts! We do ask that all shoes must have solid-construction all the way around the foot: no clogs, slippers, or slide "mules". It's also acceptable to have slight trim color variation - but again, please stay within the neutral color family.
Questions? Please don't hesitate to email our Assistant Principal, Cheryl Loy, at cloy@marian.com. Many parents have emailed photos of shoes for approval - so if you have any doubts about your shoe choice, please consider this option to be sure!
