Message from the Principal
During the Conference
Listen carefully. It is perfectly acceptable to take notes. This is particularly helpful if one parent or other involved relative cannot attend. It can also help you remember details so that you can ask questions later.
Offer your perspective. Many times teachers will ask you about your child’s activities at home and your views of your child’s strengths and areas where help might be needed. Even if the teacher does not ask, speak up and provide your observations and any concerns.
You want to hear good news about your child. If the teacher does not offer any positive comments, ask directly, “What does my child do well?” And remember that teachers often hear only negative comments, too. Be sure to try to offer a compliment, a thank you to let the teacher know you appreciate what they are trying to do to help your child-even when what the teacher is trying to do may not be working.
Do not be afraid to ask questions. If you do not understand something or feel your concerns are not being addressed, then ask the teacher. Teachers and other educators easily slip into jargon and forget that many parents are not familiar with the terms they use every day. Ask what test scores mean and what the results mean for your child. Stop and ask for explanation of unfamiliar terms or programs. Not understanding can quickly lead to misunderstanding.

Our teachers are prepared to discuss their insights and observations from the time they spend with your child at school, including their strengths, as well as creating goals. Thank you for partnering with us to create a positive school experience for your children!

PTO CORNER
WOW!! We finished tracking minutes for Read-A-Thon last week and we officially read more than 163,000 minutes as a school!
We’re collecting donations through March 3rd, so there’s still time to add to our already unbelievable total for fundraising. We’ll be handing out prizes for our top earners and readers on Tuesday, and students will get to see some of our staff get “snowed” for reaching our goal!
If you’re ready to get some new books on those shelves, consider purchasing from the online catalog of local Hopkins bookseller Cream & Amber. Through March 20th, if you use the code EISENHOWER when purchasing a book, Cream & Amber will give 10% of its proceeds to the Eisenhower PTO. You can shop here: https://books.creamandamber.com

Hopkins Schools Transportation now has live GPS information through My Stop
We are excited to share that Hopkins Public Schools is now able to offer caregivers and students access to live school bus GPS information through My Stop. My Stop is a web-based application that families can use to track their child’s bus in real-time. This service will be especially useful during days when winter weather has slowed transportation.
You can access My Stop at this link or on our transportation webpage. To log in, please use the same Canvas username and password assigned to your student. If you don’t know your child’s Canvas credentials, contact the Hopkins technology help desk at 952-988-4111. You can also download the My Stop App on Apple or Android platforms.

Winter Recess Reminder
Students need to be prepared to spend 30-40 minutes or more outside daily during the winter weather for recess, class breaks, and/or gym class.
Recess is moved indoors only due to rain, air temperature below
0 degrees or windchill below -10 degrees.
If a situation comes up where your student requires indoor recess to due illness or injury that prevents them from going outside, a doctor's note is needed in order for school to accommodate your student staying indoors.
