Curriculum Highlights
Math-This week we will continue with Topic 3. We will continue practicing our math addition facts up to 20. This week we will practice with strategies including doubles plus 1, doubles plus 2, and making 10 to add.
Social Studies-This week, as Halloween approaches, we will spend time exploring the many traditions associated with this celebration!
Faith In First
First graders this week during religion class explored how important everyone is to God.
In this Sunday's gospel (Luke 18:9-14) a Pharisee and a tax collector go the to Temple to pray. The Pharisee ( which is the name for a group) prays thanking God as he compares and condemns the tax collector. Essentially he is saying to God that he is better. Well Jesus in this gospel story is not criticizing the values and beliefs of a whole religious group. No, he is talking about how self-righteous this Pharisee is being.
First graders in their lesson learned how important each person is individually and to the greater community. They learned that pleasing God is about being a holy, caring and loving person. They know that this is the way to follow Jesus. Ask your first grader to tell you one way that they can show a friend by their actions how much they love them.
Harvest Festival Is Here!
MJS All American Donut Election
As we all know, November 8th marks our next American presidential election. We are going to celebrate this important milestone by having our own election. MJS students will vote to decide what is "The All American Donut.” We are using this analogy to teach the election process through school families and morning prayer. The students will see the good Ol’ American democracy in action as we vote on election day!
