What IB Can Do For Your Student
Palmer High School's IB Program
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is an internationally-recognized program of studies for high school juniors and seniors.
One of the biggest benefits of the IB program is college readiness. According to a study by the IBO, the four-year graduation rates of Diploma Program students is 79%--significantly higher than the national average of 39%. IB students learn soft skills eg. time management, ability to talk to teachers that they need to be successful in their postsecondary educations.
Additionally, participation in the IB can come with huge financial benefits! Over one-thousand colleges in the United States offer college credit for students who receive passing scores on IB exams. IB Diploma holders may receive sophomore status, admission to honors colleges, guaranteed admission, housing priority, and course-registration priority.
Even schools in the University of Alaska system support the work done by IB students. Former PHS students attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks have received 30+ college credits in exchange for the work they’ve done in IB.
Our IB info night will explain how IB works, what it takes to participate, and what the short-term and long-term benefits of the program can be. Speakers will include our IB Diploma Program coordinator, current students and teachers within the IB program, and parents of students who have participated in the IB.
