Fantastic Fourth Grade

Peek at the Week

Here is what is coming up next week!

Writing! Writing! and more Writing!!

The students will be participating in Camp Write Along! We start our day off by going to a pep rally where we sing grammar songs and learn our prompt for the day! Here is a link so some of the songs we will be singing. http://wiki4jwheeler.wikispaces.com/Camp+Write+Along+Songs

The students will write 1 expository composition everyday as well as participating in grammar/editing relays and and at the end of the day we will have our campfire share out with smores!

Your student will be bringing home 3 out of the 4 essays on Thursday with them completely graded so that you can see what they need to work on over the weekend before the test the following week.

Think Through Math Homework

Last week the students were enrolled in an online Math Program called Think Through Math. This is a great program that works on problem solving and helping the students to really understand math concepts. The students took a pre-test which placed them according to what they need to best work on. I am asking the students to complete at least 10 minutes per night of Think Through Math. I understand though that some nights are busier than others so I am ultimately looking for 40 minutes per week. For those students who complete the 40 minutes per week, I will do a Lunch Bunch reward in the classroom.

20 for 20

Sommer Elementary is issuing a “20 for 20” reading challenge to our families during the month of March! Pledge to read with your children for twenty minutes a day, for twenty days this month. You can read to your child, your child can read to you, or you can read together -- you choose! Enjoy the time reading with your child during this challenge -- we know it will be worthwhile. Look for more information and a reading log in your child’s Thursday folder.

Please make sure that you are checking Home Access. If you see an M or a blank spot on the assignment that means your student has NOT turned in the assignment. Soon, I will be requiring them to check into Home Access once per week and recording their grades and any missing work they have. Please keep a look out for the paper to come home in about 2 weeks.

Book Club Expectations

I have gone onto my Classroom blogger page Mrs. Wright's Brights and updated the Book Club expectations. Click on the tab at the top of the page for Book Club expectations and it will explain to you how Book Club is run in the classroom and what the students are responsible for completing at home and at school. The link to Mrs. Wright's Brights is at the bottom of this newsletter.
