Notes from Dr. Miller
Dear Gompers K8 Parent Community,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal of Gompers K8. It is truly an honor to become a part of the Gompers family and community. I hear such great accolades about Gompers students, staff and parent community....soooooooo excited to begin our journey together!
I come to you with 27 years of experience as an educator; however I come from a family of educators, so I have been around this profession all of my life. I spent 6 years teaching: Humanities Core at Hamilton before moving to teach 9th grade English at Savannah Academy. The last 17 years, I have served as a building principal at Lafayette and most recently at Jackie Robinson K8 Academy for eight years.
This summer, I plan to spend time working with members of the change of principal and SDM leadership committees, parents, community members to ensure a smooth transition. I will get to know our building, our community, and familiarize myself with the unique needs of our school. I believe wholeheartedly that every student deserves a quality education and that only happens when the school and the families work together for the best interests of our children. With that in mind, I will be calling on all of our faculty, staff, and parents to work as a singular unit so we can best serve our children.
I do not take the role of principalship very lightly and I am humbled to be of service and support to the Gompers community. As I begin to immerse myself completely in our school and in our community. I believe my main responsibility is to put our teachers in the best possible position to succeed, as they will, in turn, put our children in the best possible position to succeed.
In August, I will begin to send information about the beginning of school activities and meetings in this weekly “online platform” called “The Gator Bulletin”. The Gator Bulletin will be sent weekly on Friday evenings via your email address and or cell phone number as a text message to click the link to access.
I look forward to meeting all of you and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
Respectfully,
Dr. Damita Myers-Miller - dmyersmiller@lbschools.net
