Types of Linear Equations
Identifying Lines
Parallel Lines
- Parallel lines are always the same distance apart and never meet
- They will NEVER intersect
- They have the SAME slope (y-intercept does not matter)
Perpendicular Lines
- Perpendicular lines form ninety degree angles
- They will intersect exactly once
- Their slopes are the negative reciprocal of each other (y-intercept still does not matter)
Neither
- These lines intersect, but do not form ninety degree angles.
- Their slopes are unrelated to each other.
