This Week in Science
Students will be working on a project (Due May 1st) on an Earthquake or Volcano. They will be researching the event they have chosen and creating a one minute video on the event from the perspective of the reporter, or they may present live to the class. Students may film at home and email the presentation to me at kpatito@lcusd.net or they may schedule a time to film in my classroom during lunch or recess on the classroom iPad.
There are opportunities to earn extra credit for completing the assignment early.
This Week in Math
This week students will be learning to
- Pose statistical questions that anticipate variability in data
- Analyze questions for their ability to gather varying data
- Display their collected data in plots
- Understand that, once plotted, this information (numerical or categorical data set) described by its center, spread and overall shape
- Recognize measure of center of a numerical data set
- Recognize measure of variation of a numerical data set
There is a lot of new vocabulary in this unit! Students have a graphic organizer to fill in and use as a reference. I am encouraging them to use this language in all their discussions and on their homework to help them become more proficient mathematicians.
7/8 Choir Tryouts
Join 7/8 Choirs at LCHS
Make Music!
Make New Friends!
Have Fun!
Are your students interested in joining choir?
There are three choral music ensembles open to 7/8 students. The Women’s Ensemble (6th period) and Vocal Ensemble (5th period) meet during the regular school day and the Men’s Ensemble (7th-12th graders) meets 0 period. Students in these courses will learn proper vocal technique, choral performance practices, music theory, and explore a variety of choral literature. Seasonal holiday, classical and pop music concerts along with a performance at a festival and/or competition highlight the year. In addition to an annual trip to Disneyland, a performance tour and/or music enrichment trip is possible. The Men's Ensemble and Women's Ensemble have open enrollment, so anyone may join regardless of previous experience. The Vocal Ensemble is an auditioned mixed group with boys and girls.
Auditions are very simple. Sing 30 seconds of any song you know and then a few basic ear tests. Auditions will be held April 9th and 10th from 3pm-5pm in the LCHS Choir Room and will last approximately 5 minutes.
If you have other questions about our program please email me (jpugh@lcusd.net) or come meet me during the LCHS campus Open House Thursday, April 9th in the Choir Room. For more information about our program check us out online at (www.lchschoral.org)
Sincerely,
Jared Pugh
