Do dogs understand English?

If dogs understand English, then they will respond to the right command.

Problem- A matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcame. (A situation that needs to be over come.)

Hypothesis- A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation. (An educated guess.)

Independent Variable - A variable (often denoted by x) whose variation does not depend on that of another. (The variable that will not change.)

Dependent Variable- A variable (often denoted by y) whose value depends on that of another. (A variable that will change.)

Control- The standard piece of data. (normal)

Experiment Procedure- The specific techniques used in conducting a particular experiment. (How to do the experiment.)

My Experiment

1)Get multiple dogs (friend's dogs work too)

2)Ask them regular commands (sit, stay, down)

3)Ask them commands that are not real in different tones of voices (zit, tay, lown)

4)Collect data (I used a data table (shown below) it made everything so much easier)

5)Analyze data

I did 5 trial each trial I used a different tone of voice, so the dogs did not just do what they thought I meant. The dogs in this experiment did very well and I bet that the data will be different from dog to dog. Not all the data was the same than that means that dogs probably only understand what you as the owner taught them. I don't think that dogs understand English.
