School Vision: We believe that the best strategy to achieve our mission is to develop efficacy as a professional learning community. We envision a school of:
Committed individuals to the education of our students.
Collaborative teamwork.
Implementing strategies to continuously improve student achievement.
One team. One vision.
Happy 2023 New Year and welcome back Dragon Family!
I hope each of you had a restful and meaningful time with your family during this winter break. The students and teachers enjoyed being back at school and catching up about all we did during the holidays. We have also enjoyed meeting our new students and can say that they are making lovely friendships.
As educators at Maverick Elementary, we are thankful for all the great opportunities we have to impact our students' young lives, especially post-pandemic. Our students are the reason we're here. The atmosphere was encouraging and cheerful when they returned to school on Tuesday, January 3rd. As the second semester begins, the teachers and administrators have one vision for our students, and we hope it closely matches yours. We want ALL of our Dragon students to become all they can be. We want them to be successful through hard work, consistent attendance, perseverance, utilizing help from our faculty and staff, and working diligently. We want this because these traits will build good habits that will carry them profitably throughout their lives. We expect a great deal from our students because they are very capable of producing great results!
Therefore parents, please be aware that attendance is very important for our students. Students in grades K-12 must be present 90 percent of the time in class to obtain credit or a final grade. The 90 percent rule applies to all absences, including excused absences. Therefore, if your child has missed ten or more days during the first semester, you should have received a letter from our attendance office. If you have questions about your child's attendance, please get in touch with the attendance office at 210-438-6550.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to the amazing things that will be happening this second semester.
Warmest Regards,
Leila L. Garza
Principal
Maverick Elementary
Leila L. Garza

Middle of the Year Check-In
The middle of the year is a great time to check-in with your child's teacher about their progress in class. Here are a few questions you can ask your child's teacher:
- Is my child performing on grade level?
- What are my child's Reading and Math goals for the end of the year (EOY)?
- Is my child on track to reach or exceed their goals?
- How did my child perform on their Middle of the Year (MOY) assessments?
- What are some things I can do at home to help my child work towards their goals?
Parents can always schedule conferences with teachers during their daily conference time, before or after school. Thank you for your partnership.

Dear Parents and Students,
Tomorrow starts our ITT (It’s Time Texas) 8-week health competition challenge. For those unfamiliar, this is a free, fun way of encouraging healthy habits like drinking water or simply going for a walk. We’re striving to get our community moving and encourage healthy eating habits. We started learning about the body systems last week in our Health class and will be continuing to do so over the next few weeks so this is perfect timing! There is a $1000 prize for PE equipment for the campus with the most active participants so let’s help each other out! When you download the app it will sync with Apple Health or Google Fit. When you register please click “YES” on the school district sub-challenge, San Antonio ISD as the district and Maverick Elementary. Estimados Padres y Estudiantes,
