Room 8 News
Mrs. Fitzgerald, 3rd Grade
March 15, 2016
This week we are reviewing "author's purpose" and how to use background knowledge to enhance reading comprehension. We are also learning about homonyms and we are continuing to read Shiloh as a class. We will be having our reading unit 5 test next week. Please feel free to review the comprehension skills found in the Reading Street textbook pg. 194-350.
In grammar we learned about articles (a, an, the) and all about adjectives. In writing we will be publishing our "Advantages/Disadvantages" essays, using the Pages app in the iPads.
In math we are learning how to find a fractional part of a set, as well as how to identify the factors of a number. We will also be learning how to identify the rays and vertex of an angle, as well as how to identify right and straight angles. In addition, we will be learning how to identify the number of degrees in a circle, a straight angle, and a right angle.
We continued learning about matter, including atoms, elements, and the periodic table of elements. In social studies we are continuing our discussion on economics and we will be reviewing the chapter nine vocabulary.
The format of the spelling bee will mirror the Stockton format. Students will be required to state the word, spell the word, and state the word again. We will begin with third grade level words, then move up as the competition moves along. Please let me know if you have any questions!
