History

It was first discovered in 1981 in the U.S. when cases of a rare lung infection was found in 5, young, gay men in Los Angeles. The life expectancy of a person with AIDS was around three years and now it is a lot longer due to advances in medication.

Symptoms of AIDS

  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Aching Muscles
  • Sore Throat
  • Red rash in torso area
  • Fever

What causes AIDS and how AIDS is passed

Unprotected sex is mainly what causes the disease. Also if someone who has AIDS, if their blood is passed, that can also cause the disease.

How is AIDS Treated and Diagnosed

Although AIDS is incurable, people who have it are give medication that helps them live longer with the disease.

The doctor will need a confirmed blood test that shows HIV positive to be able to diagnose the disease.
