4934 HS/MS Students Used the LMC on Their Own
From research projects, to group work, videos, podcasting, and individual reading interests, students high school and middle school students used the LMC this year during their own time before school, after school, during supervised study, and/or Homebase times.
1180 Elementary Students Used the LMC on Their Own
K-6 students visited the LMC for personal reading interests, to meet Accelerated Reader Goals, and for assistance with research projects.
21st Centrury LMC for 21st Century Projects
The LMC services stretched well beyond students checking out books. Students podcasted, made videos, created collaborative projects, and much more in the LMC this year!
At 349 items, Ohio Libraries Share More Continues to Grow!
Students and staff continue to request items from the 100+ school and public libraries in the Ohio Libraries Share More system. In addition to classroom literature units. students and staff requested items for research purposes and personal reading interests. OLS:MORE helped a 6th grader break the school record for AR points, a 12th grader find unique senior project resources, and a high schooler read one of his favorite books in German! 139 Information Literacy Lessons
Mrs. Hoffman provided information literacy instruction to both high school/middle school and elementary students to support the curriculum and college and career readiness. Students learned how to evaluate quality sources, conduct effective searches, use information ethically, make quality presentations, and much more! An information literacy curriculum was presented to teachers in Grades 1-6 that resulted in multiple collaborative teaching projects.
883 Elementary Classes Served
Upper elementary students visited the library weekly to meet AR goals and find materials for personal reading interests. Primary elementary students enjoyed story time and literacy-related activities during their library "specials."
College and Career Readiness: Book Club Skypes
Both the High School and Middle School Book Club members used presentation skills as they participated in Skype discussions with award-winning authors this year.The High School Book Club is advised by Mrs. Kobee, Mr. Bowling (Johnson Memorial Library), and Mrs. Hoffman.
College and Career Readiness: College-Level Research
Students in Mrs. Fleming's AP English 12 class visited the BGSU Jerome Library this fall to research their senior project papers. First Year Experience Librarian Rob Snyder instructed students in the practice of collegiate-level research, building upon the students' previous knowledge using school library print and electronic resources. Students were accompanied and assisted by Mrs. Fleming and Mrs. Hoffman.
Partnering with the Public Library for Lifelong Learning
The HEVS Library partnered with the public library to register students for library cards and to promote summer-long reading through the public library summer reading program. The public library presented assemblies in the fall and the spring.
