1848 Gold discovered in CA
On January 24, 1848, something happened that impacted the history of California and the Nation. James W. Marshall was in the process of building a sawmill for Captain John Sutter. He used the water from the South part of the American River. He started to notice several flakes of metal in tail race water and soon noticed it was gold. He tried to keep it on the low but it very quickly went around town. This started the California Gold Rush of 1849. Some of the immigrants poured into California during the time of 1849. By the 1850s miners from all over the world were coming. After the gold started to decrease lots of the minors left. But some of them stayed to finish checking out the other features of California. Those miners found many valuable things .

b. People are heading to California to "Get Rich Quick". They will get to mine for gold and whatever gold they find, will be theirs. They will also get to get land. With rich resources and mild climates.
c. Dear Family,
These mining camps are crazy. Everyone is trying their hardest to find gold. Everyone really wants to strike the gold. It is pretty mild out here. Its nice weather to be digging for gold. I have been working as hard as I can to search for the gold. I've been working long days with my gold pan and shovel. There are a lot of sicknesses going around. With so many people in the gold mines, people will get sick easily.
