Pence Press
April 18-25, 2021
Understandably, our students were a little tentative and quiet on Monday. By the end of the week, much of the normal chatter and buzz had returned to our building as you could see students smiling with their eyes as they caught up with each other. We certainly take pride in building a positive culture at Pence and our teachers took the time to build community all week to help make students feel comfortable.
We also understand that this pandemic has not been easy and some of our students may need some extra supports. Please feel free to reach out to our school counselors if you feel like your student(s) is experiencing any social or emotional concerns. We are here to partner with you.
Sincerely-
John Childs, Candice Ray, and Teresa Shank

Thank you to our parents, our staff, and the help of the Dayton Police Department who have all worked together to make this process successful this week! We ask that you continue to follow the procedures that were outlined in the previous week: approaching the school from the south on Ashby Street and having students load and unload promptly any time you are stopped along the sidewalk.

"Lettuce" thank the AG Department!!!
Project Description
WSPMS Agriculture Students started lettuce from seed over a month ago and have been watching it grow hydroponically in the hopes to donate it to a good cause. The lettuce grows in water, without soil and is ready to harvest after 4-5 weeks.
Today 7th and 8th graders harvested the romaine and mixed lettuce so that it could be used in the student salads.

Massanutten Technical Center Summer Academy
Good Afternoon Middle School Parents!
We are excited to be able to bring to you the Massanutten Technical Center Summer Academy again! This is a great opportunity for students currently in 6th-8th grade to get a hands-on experience with MTC and our programs, and have a great time!
Attached is the registration form for this year's Academy. Here are a few important reminders:
1. Please mark your top three preferences. There are only 10 spots open for each program, and a spot is only confirmed once payment is received. It is recommended that you choose three in case spots are filled in the first choice.
2. Registrations and payments can be returned either by hand deliver to MTC (Chris Dalton, Assistant Director) or mailed in using the information on the form.
We look forward to an exciting week of Summer Academy, where students will have the experience of a lifetime, and learn new skills! If you would like more information about the Academy and/or MTC, please visit us at www.mtcva.com!
Have a great afternoon!

Immunizations
NEW guidelines
- Please read carefully the RCPS immunization/Physical Examination Schedule for 2021-2022. Under sections Grade 6th and Grade 7th, ALL rising 7th graders will need to have their Tdap-booster (must be 11 years old) that is required for entry into 7th grade regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine by this fall 2021-22 school year.
- They now also require all males and females to get their first dose of HPV and Meningococcal vaccine before entry of the 7th grade as well. We would like for you to start planning ahead on this and get your doctor's appointment scheduled now so this will be done prior to Augusta 2021.
The Health Department is still closed for these types of appointments and it will not be easy to make these appointments at the last minute.
If you have any questions please call and speak to the school nurse or ask your doctor.
