Poway High School Academic Planning
For the 2018-19 School Year
Hello Future Titans!
The time has come to start preparing for the 2018-19 School Year at Poway High School. In this newsletter, you will find information on events and dates important for enrollment, registration, and what you need to set up a course request list.
If your student goes to one of our feeder schools (Twin Peaks, Meadowbrook, or Black Mountain), the PHS Counselors will give a presentation to students during class to pass out materials and explain the process. If your student attends a Poway Unified school, but is not at one of our feeder schools, contact your student's middle school counselor for more information on the CRF process and to obtain the documents needed. They will then send us a request.
For students who will be new to Poway Unified, you will be able to meet with a counselor at an enrollment appointment once enrollment opens for the district. This is when you will fill out a course request form. You can find more information about enrollment later in this newsletter.

Key Terms to Understand
CRF (Course Request Form)
The CRF (Course Request Form) is a grade-specific sheet that every student fills out. This form is a list of the classes a student would like to take during the next school year. We try to accommodate students' preferences, but no elective or off-roll courses are guaranteed. For this reason, please select 3 alternate options on any elective selections. If your student goes to a PUSD schoool, they can get this form from their counselors, if they will be new to the district, they will get the form at their enrollment appointment.
AP Agreement
We ask all our students requesting AP courses to turn in an AP Agreement with student and parent signature. This Agreement is an acknowledgement that you are aware of the extra time and effort required of these courses and that the student agrees to follow through with the entire course. You can find the AP Agreement here. One AP Agreement covers ALL AP Classes, so each student signing up for an AP class only needs one.
Master Schedule
The Master Schedule (all the classes we offer) is designed based upon the course requests we get from students and our enrollment numbers. We re-build the master schedule every year because the size of the school and demand for classes change. We start building the schedule as soon as we get the requests, but it is not finalized until just before the school year starts in August.
Off Roll
Some students will find that they prefer to lighten their load for various reasons, such as sports or other activities. These students can choose an Off Roll period in which they do not attend a class. Students are able to request which trimester and period (1st or 5th) they would prefer. However, because Off Roll periods are secondary to Academic and Elective classes, Off Rolls will be granted where course selections allow. Some students will end up with Off Roll periods in the middle of the day to accommodate.

Enrollment Information
Enrollment and Registration are two different things. Every child must enroll when they first enter a school. Students coming from our feeder schools (Twin Peaks, Meadowbrook, and Black Mountain), have automatic enrollment rollover, all other students will need to fill out an enrollment packet. Registration happens every year for every student. Plan to attend a registration session the week before school starts. Dates and times TBA.
Enrollment for the 2018-19 School Year will open May 1, 2018. The enrollment packet will be available on that day on the PUSD website. You can find more information on the Poway High enrollment and registration process on our Enrollment Newsletter.
If you will need an Inter/Intra-District Transfer to attend Poway High School, the application process begins February 1, 2018. You can apply on the PUSD Website. It is strongly recommended that you apply for the transfer in February even if your student won't be enrolled until May. IDTs are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
