Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians
Environmental Art Trail
It was such a delight to spend last Friday evening celebrating the talents and creativity of the students and staff throughout our school. Walking around the environmental art spaces was a wonderful experience and a real demonstration of the energy that can be created when we combine our creative talents and work together as one, right from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.
The opportunity of painting with an Artist in Residence was very well received by the children and our instrumentalists added a fabulous dimension to the creative heart of our school.
Thank you to the many people who have provided positive feedback and to our families who came along to join us in this new venture! A huge thank you to the P&F committee for ensuring we could feed our families and enjoy some entertainment along the way. Congratulations to Matilda James for winning the 5kg box of chocolates!
The Joy of Play
On Monday evening, I attended our Kindergarten Information session for the upcoming Kindergarten 2019 families. It was refreshing to listen to the teachers reminding us that play is essential for children. It is through play that our children learn to problem solve, get along with others, develop skills of negotiation, learn about conflict resolution and ultimately develop greater emotional resilience. Let’s all take a deep breath and allow our children, no matter how old, the freedom to learn through play!
Annual Community Meeting
Please remember that you are invited to attend the upcoming ACM in our school library on Wednesday 21 November at 7.30pm. This is a great opportunity to reflect on all that has been happening in our school this year and to hear about our plans for 2019. We’d love to see you there.
Paper Straw Initiative
A special mention to Rianna (3G) who was concerned about the effect that plastic straws are having on our environment. Rianna researched the negative effects of plastic straws and submitted a proposal to the school to use biodegradable paper straws. Rianna's family even donated the first box of paper straws which will be used by our canteen from now on. Thank you Rianna for encouraging our school to take another step on our path to a sustainable future.
Many blessings

Class Transition Day - 3rd December
On Monday 3rd December between 11am and 12pm, students from Kindergarten to Year 5 will spend time in the classes they will be going to in 2019 . This will be a good opportunity for staff and students to meet each other and plan for next year.
Please be aware that we have a stringent process for allocating students to classes. The needs of all children are considered, with staff members liaising carefully to find an appropriate class balance based on specific criteria, including:
- academic needs
- special needs
- gender balance
- pastoral care and welfare needs
- social and emotional concerns, together with student relationships
Although we are sometimes nervous about change, planning for the future is always an exciting time and one that we do not take lightly, so please be assured that we have your child's best interest at heart. Thank you for your continued support of the staff in all that they do.
Please note that the Kindy 2019 transition will take place in the afternoon from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

Whitty Dad’s Fishing Clinic
Many thanks to Mark Pagano for organizing and coordinating the Whitty Dads Fishing Clinic, Sunday week ago. Some feedback from Mark:
“We ended up with 20 dads and 32 children ranging from 4 to 11 years old. They all had fun catching blowies, small pink snapper and silver bream, with all fish going back into the briny to swim another day!
The free clinic was put on by Recfishwest (the peak body for recreational fishers) by volunteers. The kids received some take home goodies including a fishing magazine and a colouring-in/educational booklet from Fisheries.
We may try to lock this in as an annual event on the Whitty Dads calendar. I also think it would be great to run a mum/gran or aunty & kids fishing clinic. Fishing isn't and shouldn't just be about men and these fishing clinics provide a great opportunity to introduce people to fishing!
Thank you for your support of the Whitty Dads group activities”.
Thanks again Mark…….we know a few of those mums, grans and aunts who can’t wait for a turn too!
