OCPL Weekly Update

December 10, 2015

Outreach & Adult Programming

We had a lovely time at the Holiday Open House on Tuesday at Main! Thanks to everyone who helped out.

Upcoming events:

MONDAY, DEC. 14TH: Book fair at Barnes & Noble. Please give out the vouchers for this this weekend & Monday. (If you don’t have them yet, they’ll come in the run on Friday.) If people shop and tell the clerks that they are supporting the library, then part of their proceeds go to support the Library! They don’t have to do anything else, and it doesn’t cost anything beyond the cost of the purchase they were making anyway. I’ll be at the store (Paddock Shops - or Summit, whichever you know it by) all day giving out vouchers and signing people up for library cards. Volunteers will be providing free gift wrap & we’ll be taking donations for the service. Susan B. will be doing a special storytime in the evening with a craft!

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16TH: Open Craft Day at Main, 10-noon.

THURSDAY, DEC. 17TH: Crafty Reader Ornament party. Registration for this is online. The Crafty Readers group will be making special ornaments! Main, 6-8pm.

SATURDAY, DEC. 19TH: Game Day at Main, 1-5pm.

Also: Cypress Resume Service is available online now! This is a great way for people to build resumes without a lot of computer knowledge. Try it out & promote it. It’s very easy to use! http://www.oldhampl.org/digital_resources.html

South Oldham Library

Teens & Main Circ

Thanks to all who helped with the OCMS Family Literacy Night! The school was absolutely thrilled with the turn-out. I believe they tripled their numbers over the last time they had the event. It was a little bit crazy and there was a ton of garbage to take out (thanks to Mary M. and my brother for helping with that), but it is always so great to get new families in the library. I also saw a lot of people just connecting, so that is always good to see.

Tonight for teens: Teen Book & a Movie Club—we are watching “Ant-Man” at 5:30 pm (12/10)

Teens can make ornaments to hang in all three libraries this month and be put into a drawing for movie tickets (one pair for each branch). I have the ornaments at Main and Mahan already and am planning to make my way to South today to get the supplies set up.

Everyone had a good time at the Nature of Christmas. Our refreshments spread was popular, particularly with the little boy who kept pounding back cookies until his mom cut him off! (In his defense, the cookies were really good.) The kids liked the crafts as well; here’s two of the kids displaying their work. I'd like to thank Lisa for helping set up for the program and for handling the craft, and John for taking care of patrons downstairs while the event was going on.

We jazzed up one of our Christmas displays with lights and ornaments (see picture). Thanks to Kendra for putting this together.

As of the other day, we don’t have any NOHS student art at the library. The students needed their pieces back to enter in the scholastic competition. However, one of the NOHS art teachers assures me that she’ll be loaning more student art in the near future. We look forward to that happening, and wish the students good luck in their competition.

Last, but not least, the Christmas party is almost here! The staff has been working really hard getting everything ready, and we can hardly wait for Saturday to arrive. We look forward to seeing those of you who will be in attendance, and we’ll miss those who weren’t able to fit the party in their busy holiday schedules.

See you next week!
