The 3Cs Connection
Student & Parent Newsletter for CCC - May/June 2022
Class of 2022-Now Loading
Cyclone Families,
In this final edition of the 3Cs newsletter, I wanted to take a moment and thank you for a successful school year. Our students, faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to meet every challenge put in their path. June 2nd, we celebrate our 55 (and the number is growing) seniors who have committed to entering the workforce and our J. A. Cotton Scholar Award recipients. June 7th, we induct our National Technical Honor Society Members and recognize the inaugural Spirit of the Cyclone recipients. We also look forward to seeing the CCC cords donned by our seniors at their high school graduations. It is important for our students to stay focused and continue to press forward to the last day. Please reach out to your child's instructor or the administrative team with any questions or concerns. We are all working together to finish the year strong!
May 2-6 was national Teacher Appreciation Week. We enjoyed celebrating our incredible instructors. If you have not done so, please take a moment to thank your student's teacher.
We also get to celebrate our unsung heroes in our schools this month. May 11 is School Nurses Day and May 10-14 is CPS Custodial Staff Recognition Week. We appreciate Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Brooks, Mr. Blanchard and Ms. Carney for their dedication to CCC. Please join us in thanking them for all they do!
CCC students will participate in virtual SOL days May 26-27 and June 2-3. Students will be provided asynchronous assignments in the morning to complete and have four blocks of live instruction in the afternoon. Please check Schoology for class information.

CCC recognized at State of the Schools
Tuesday, April 26th, Chesapeake Career Center was spotlighted several times at the annual State of the Schools address by Superintendent, Dr. Jared Cotton. Through the course of his speech, Dr. Cotton reminded us of what matters most.
This year, CCC added a new Emergency Dispatch communications/911 Operator program in partnership with the Chesapeake Police Department. The program was featured on WTKR. Click here for the story.
Also, our Cybersecurity students completed internships at their home high schools with the technology support specialist working at the Help Desks. A huge thank you to our Workforce Development Coordinator, Mrs. Speelman, for working through the logistics to ensure the program got off the ground and the students had a meaningful work experience. A shout out was given to our Community Partners, Comfort Systems of Virginia, Heartland Construction, Reynold's Landscaping, and Eure, Inc. for our beautiful outdoor pavilion.
Finally, we were very proud that the 2022 Pride of the 'Peake award was created and manufactured by the Welding program at CCC. We know the JCA Foundation will display it with Cyclone Pride.
CCC Cords will be worn at Graduation!!!
CLASS OF 2022
One hundred and ninety two seniors ordered CCC cords to wear at their high school graduations. If you have not ordered your cord yet, a limited number of extra cords were ordered. Please bring your $10.00 to CCC and we can hold a cord for you. Once the extra cords are sold, there will not be any additional ones available.
The cords will arrive at the beginning of June, just in time for graduation ceremonies. If your child is one of our TCC graduates and participating in TCC's graduation, solid royal blue and lime green cords will be issued to wear at TCC's graduation and traded back in for the intertwined blue and green cords when they arrive.

School Attendance Matters!
Students who miss more than 9 days in any given semester class may lose credit for that class due to excessive absences, regardless of whether the absences were excused or not. If your child's excessive absences include days missed due to a quarantine documented by the nurse, those absences will be waived from the 9 day limit.
Your child's attendance is posted in ParentVue. A letter alerting you to a potential loss of credit is posted in ParentVue when your child reaches 6, 9, and 10 absences in each class. This is your official notification of excessive absences, so please check ParentVue often to monitor your student's attendance. Students can make-up a portion of missed time by attending extended day.
If a student must be absent, please email or bring a note to our attendance secretary (nancy .manning@cpschools.com) so we can code the absence appropriately.
Along with your student's high school, Dr. Collier, Assistant Principal, should be notified in advance about trips, vacations, and other lengthy unexcused absences to ensure student progress in class. Please email or send a note to karin.collier@cpschools.com explaining the absence prior to the absence.
The Chesapeake School Board has defined an excused absence to include any of the following: Sickness of a student, medical appointments, severe illness or death in the family, exposure to contagious disease, religious holidays, or extenuating circumstances such as fire, accident, or extremely inclement weather. Absences other than those listed above will be recorded as unexcused absences.
